Looking for a karambit :)

Hey guys. Buddy of mine pulled out a knife on the bus on our way to school. Said he got it last night from his parents. Was dark so i could hardly see. He passed it to me and i immediately recognized the feel of a karambit. I opened the blade and spun it a few times, much to the horror of our other friend who isn't familiar with blades. He wasn't sure who made it so i assumed it was a cheapie. Didnt want to press him for details so i closed the blade and returned it to him.

I used to have a little folding karambit, had a lot of cheapies. That one was by far the best ever. Took so much abuse and only had to be tightened once! So i was hoping you guys could give me a hand. I am now looking for a new karambit! Mostly like self defense/tactical blades so the karambit is a knife i am very familiar with. Now i don't need anything too expensive. Heck if its just barely better than a cheapie i will be satisfied. Just want a new karambit haha. I would spend more but i dont have a ton of money. Any suggestions under 100$ would be great. That price range can be flexible but not by much. Appreciate guys and girls.

Fox Chiroptera- $97 on knifeworks

Quartermaster B.A. Baracas- $91 knifeworks

Mantis Vuja De- $80 on bladehq. Not sure about quality, but it looks fun.

Spyderco is going to be releasing a folding k-bit sometime soon. Expand your price a bit and look at the other two Quartermaster karambits and the Emersons.

The fox is a great knife as is the 5.11 CUB 2.0 (which is S30V even) but the 5.11 doesn't have a wave so if that's important you'll have to mod it or use a ghetto wave (zip tie).

If you REALLY want to impress/terrorize your classmates on the bus, make your parents buy you the Dark Ops Vendetta Karambit. It's totally badass and easily concealed

For just under $100 shipped, go to www.bladehq.com and look at the 511 folding kerambit.

In terms of quality, I think the 511 is the best under $100 but you need to custom wave it.
Close second would go to the fox karambit.
Spyderco should be releasing their karambit pretty soon (less than a month) but from what I've gathered the street price will be closer to $150.
If you want the best folding karambit out there right now (production) grab yourself an emerson combat karambit.

Forget about the Quartermaster and the Mantis. Both suck. So with something else.

I have the older model Spyderco folding karambit, and really like it. I handled one of the Emersons a few years back, and really liked it, too.

Haven't seen any Mantis karambits, but Quartermaster is fine. Their ad campaign is... obnoxious... but their knives are good. I have heard quite a few good things about the Mantis karambits, though. Seems to be one of their few decent products.

knife on the school bus... and this hasn't been mentioned yet? Maybe you don't get yourself expelled and try to have a future where the phrase "would you like fries with that" is not part of your daily vocabulary?

That said, the Fox one is very nice.

Emerson is nice, but also WELL out of the OP's stated $100 or less price range. And the old Spyderco is gonna be hard to find, even if you do it will also likely be out of his range. Not sure what the upcoming one will run though...

one must have absolute trust in the locking mechanism before all else...

btw, there's a black "japanese market only" version

too bad it wasn't offered as a regular finish.
