I'm looking for a good EDC Kershaw that doesn't cost too much.
I'll probably use it for camping (drive into the campsite camping, and backpacking, probably mainly used for cooking). I prefer liner locks but I'm open to new types. I own a liner, axis, and a fixed. Blade steel and materials are above weight, I won't notice an 8 oz weight in my pocket. I'd rather not have a speed assisted, but if I can take out the spring without killing the warranty, I'm OK with it.
I own a Gerber powerframe, Buck Vantage Pro, Benchmade Grip, Bonecollector (fixed w/gut hook), and Benchmade Pika II.

Kershaws RAM, Skyline, Groove, Zing, Ener-g, or Junkyard Dog 2 would all be good choices that aren't assisted opening, but have flippers.
If you want one without a flipper try the 2445 Salvo/Barrage, I carry one most days at work.
All of these are "Made in the USA". There are also "Made in China" models that might work also.

There is one "Made in Japan" flipper that has been discon. for a year or so that is a great knife. The Lahar VG-10 blade with G-10 scales. It might be getting close to your weight limit.

I own a Skyline, Blitz, Clash, Leek, RAM and Lahar. Personally I like the Skyline and Blitz as far as EDC goes and they are usually pretty cheap. I usually carry the Blitz the most out of them because I prefer the blade shape. I've never used it for cooking though. Its really easy to open with the thumb ramp and mine is really fast to deploy. Its actually the one I have on me right now. The skyline is a great knife but the thumb stud on mine is almost useless. That doesn't bother me though because I can easily flip mine open with the flipper without using any wrist movement at all.

The only thing with Kershaw is I'm not big on their coating. I love most of their blades and I havent found one of their knives I dont like, but they would be so much nicer to me if they were just satin.

One you also might wanna look into (I know its not a Kershaw) is the Spyderco Tenacious. I love mine. Its got a nice blade shape/geometry and I've used it a few times to do some minor food prep around the kitchen.

Here's another idea, Kershaw Cyclone. It's discontinued, but still easily avail.

I EDC mine - alternate with a Vantage Pro.

It's a big folder. Reminds me of a svelt ZT 200, without the recurve. And 1/3the price. :D

(sad part is, I was typing this before the post above was showing, guess I'm not the only one who likes the Cyclone)

If it is mainly for cooking, i think the skyline would be your best choice. it is small, and the blade is a great slicer.
another option would be the blur, which is hollow ground, more durable than the skyline IMO, as well an being available in S30V and CPM154.
The kershaw JYD II is chunky and heavy duty, making it better for all around, but i doubt it would make as good of a slicer.

One folder that has not yet been mentioned is the kershaw ENER-G2. it 3.5 inches, and the flipper on it is amazing. it is one of the funnest knives i own. the steel is pretty good, and will work fine for food prep. i think it would fit your criteria perfectly.

For $35 it's a great deal, if you want a bigger folder.

I bought a Lahar on Ebay for $50. If you happen to find one, these are great knives for the price.

The blade is VG-10 SS and it has a nice satin finish instead of the usual beadblast. I read somewhere that these are made at the same factory as Shun kitchen cutlery ( Japan). The Lahar is in the same class as knives selling for twice the price ( or more).

Another one I like is the Groove... the grey model with the satin blade , these are a little harder to find , but I think they're nicer looking.

As a few others mentioned .... the full sized Cyclone is another bargain

Chill and its bigger brother the Skyline. Both are as light, thin and simple as you can get. Disappear in your pocket but strong enough for any EDC chore. Cheap, errr inexpensive as well.
