the chive has been my edc for about a year now (i wear a suit everyday). while i love everything about the chive i am not a big fan of the assist. i am under the impression i cant convert it to a non assist (from what i have read if i take the assist spring out the blade wont stay closed). i will tell you what i like about it and hopefully someone can list a few which could be a replacement. frame lock, full metal construction, back spacer (i carry it in the same pocket my keys are in) and lastly the flipper. so i to see if there is a way i can convert my chive to a non assist or find a knife that will fit all the other needs.

thanks

I don't see any reason that the chive wouldn't stay closed if you took out the spring, never heard of that before. Besides if that is the case, then you can just put the spring back in.

The spring in my Chive broke, and I left it that way for several months before getting around to calling Kershaw for a replacement. After it arrived, I was *this close* to leaving it broken, as I'd gotten used to it that way, and it had worked fine. What finally pushed me over the hump to replace it ended up being more curiosity to see the innards of the knife than wanting the assist feature back.

Kershaw A/O's don't have a detent in the blade to keep it closed without the torsion bar. However, with a small blade like the Chive's, there probably won't be a problem with the weight of the blade flipping it open in your pocket. There are friction folders with much larger blades that get by on the same principle. You won't find another knife exactly like the Chive, but the Sanrenmu 763 and Böker Plus Subcom Ti are great small knives in my experience that you might want to take a look at. Both of them are fairly inexpensive, too.

Send it to me. I can drill a detent and remove the assist. I have done the same successfully on a ZT0300.

i attempted to do it but i think i stripped a screw. i will carry it the way it is with the assist.
