Looking for a knife similar to the Randall 26

Folks,

I'm looking for a knife similar to the Randall 26 Pathfinder, but hopefully one that is a little less expensive and more readily available.

http://www.bp-outdoors.com/knife-randall-model-26.html

The things I like about this design are the slight drop point, the heavy (3/16") blade stock tapering to a sharp, sturdy point, and the angled hollow grind. Does anyone know of a stock knife of similar design?

Many thanks! Regan

I think you may get more replies over in the "General Forum", let's give that a try. (Link left in Traditional.)

WT,

As a 'Randall Made' knife collector for going on nine years now, coming from a guy that's owned probably 400+ Randall knives of various models and make (and numerous knock-offs) - I can tell you, without a doubt, if you're looking for a knife 'similar' to an authentic Randall knife, in the long run you'd be better served, IMO, buying the real McCoy...

I only say this, not as a cheap shot at the other fine knife makers out there, but because at some point - even after you've used the heck outta your Randall knife, your authentic Randall knife, its value will likely still be close to what you paid for it...that alone is a huge difference over the value of most the Randall knock-off's made over the last seventy (70!) years...

Yes, you'll likely pay a little more up front, but for good reason....

Check out Blackjack Knives @ New Graham Knives. They make several different Randall style knives. Very nice knives with an excellent fit and finish.

Thanks for the replies, folks! I certainly appreciate your help.

The Blackjack knives do look very nice, but the NewGraham website doesn't show the blade style I'm after, although they do have a lot of neat designs. I'll look into these more. Another plus is that Bristol is less than two hours away!

MP- your point about the Randalls are well taken. I have a #5 4" that I bought new from Randall around 10 years ago for less than $200, and now look what they are worth! I thought that was a lot of money, then. But I've had a hard time convincing myself to carry something that expensive for everyday chores.

I'd like to find this same basic design in a plain, utilitarian knife that doesn't cost a fortune and is readily available. Still looking, but I really do appreciate your help.

Y'all take care,
Regan

Some Randall collectors sometimes also buy martin knives.
But they have also go up in price.
s30v and more available, but due to the popularity, wait time also grows.
A few years earlier...

The Randall Cult will tell you there is no better knife made than a Randall..hehheh. I have had a couple over the years & was not impressed by their cutting ability! They will hold their value on what you paid for it & I got back what I paid for em so, no complaints there.

Neo, thanks for the link. For some reason, the "non-catalog" page does not show up on the Martin home page that I found with a search engine. I will give them a shout.

Everyone else- thanks for the tips and pointers. I sure do appreciate you taking an interest. I'm still looking for suggestions, though, so if someone knows of a low-cost knife that I could use as a "blade donor" and set the handle up myself, I'm all for it!

Thanks again, y'all, take care!
Regan
