My dad had a small knife on his keychain when I was a kid. It wasn't a normal folding knife. It spun out sideways from the frame. Once in line with the frame, you would spin the "sheath" (for lack if better word) around to cover the frame (which is now the handle). The sheath spun on the axis if the blade pin. Kinda gimmicky but I thought it was the coolest when I was a kid.

Anyone have any idea what it may have been? I'm terrible with descriptions.

Your description made me go dig out mine.
Also known as a swing blade.

Is this what you remember?

Yup, I got one of those too. Unfortunately I got mine used and it has an inscription on it but then again it's an old and slightly interesting inscription. Maybe I should figure something out to kind of mat-out the inscription or something.

SVTFreak, what was your fathers name? Maybe it turns out I have his knife or something? Was it a retirement or work related gift from his place of work? PM me if this is ringing any bells for ya and you're interested in more info.

My pictures are nowhere near as sharp or good as Cicatriz but I quickly snapped these pictures of my knife with my phone for your enjoyment.

Yeah, I don't have your dads knife then. The one I have says Dave "Ace" Hartline so obviously someone else.

I will say this much, the knife has some age to it. I don't know if they still make them or not but they are out there.

This is a pretty cool small knife, seen them at gunshows but had never picked one up. Going to try an make one out of wood when I need something to do.

I've seen knives like this for sale a lot, but unfortunately decked out with Swastikas, SS markings and whatnot. If I ever found a plain one for cheap I'd probably buy it.

Boker makes a knife something like that.I'm not sure what it is called but I am sure if you asked in the Boker sub forum someone would know.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that I "Love" the different interpretation of the classic swing-blades but I do appreciate that something old, that is tried and true, has been updated quite a bit in both size and aesthetics.

Like I said, I can't say that I "Love" this knife just yet but I'll tell ya, I would not mind having it in my collection. I'd also like to have some one on one time with that knife to test it out and see how it feels in my hand and how it handles in general.

I'd be all over one like that just for the historical aspect.

That looks a lot like the Colt paratrooper swing blade. They can be had fairly cheaply.
SVTFreak email incoming.
