Well it's time for another knife, so I figured I'd turn towards the experts.
I know what features I want, but I'm not quite sure which knife.

I am a fan on Spyderco, Benchmade, and Kershaw, but I am willing to expand.

Folder
Lock: Frame or Lock back
Length: ~3 inches
Steel: preferred vg-10 or 154 cm (Maybe s30v)
Handle material: G-10 or Stainless steel
Price Range: $50-$80 (could be flexible)
Pocket Clip: not the paper clip style like on some spydercos. Must be able to be carried tip up.
Not an endura or a delica (I already have both)
Not assisted opening
I would like the knife to not be able to be flipped open.
Thumb stud or hole

Sorry I'm a little picky.

I really like Kershaw leeks, but I don't like the assisted opening. Is there a similar knife without AO?

The spyderco mini Manix also really caught my attention. Is there a website that still has black in stock?

Thanks in advance.

Have you looked at the Spyderco Adventura? I know the styling can be take-it-or-leave-it for some folks, but it has a lot of what you want: 3.25" blade, VG10 steel, stainless handles, 4-way clip, lockback.

Getting one brand new would run at the top end of your price range, maybe a bit over, but you might find one here at the forums for less.

Well I guess the adventura did have everything I was looking for, but the design is a little too crazy for my tastes.

My price could go a little bit higher. I'll pay more if the knife fits well.

I'll have to pass on the axis lock. Just a liner or a lock back will work for this knife.

You can remove the torsion bar responsible for the Leek's A/O capability from the handle and blade, making it a manual opener, and keep the blade retained with the provided tip lock until you want to depoly it (no blade detent...normally the torsion bar keeps the knife closed). You can control the amount of tension limiting/allowing flippability with the pivot screw.

However, most folders can be flipped open with enough effort if they open smoothly enough to be practical in the first place...this doesn't automatically make them illegal, if that's your concern.

Have you considered the cold steel voyager series, they come in clip or tanto points, and there is a really good selection of sizes to suit you. i have an x2 voyager, it an absolute beast of a knife, awesome in every respect. its a lock back (strong enough to hold 200" of pressure without lock failure) and the blade steel is very good, i believe its vg1 but I'm not sure.

Spyderco is really the undisputed king of high quality knives around that length. Pretty much every AO knife I know anything about can be converted (or broken) to a non-AO state, so don't be afraid of any AO knife that is otherwise perfect for you.

Cally III? Stainless Native?

Both good choices, although the Caly 3 has a wire clip. I would add Spyderco's Sage (CF scales & S30V), but it, too, has a wire clip.

I've read some good things about the 5.11 series and IIRC, some of them are within your specs. A. G. Russell has some lockbacks in your size and price range that are made with quality materials (ATS34 and VG10, I think). Al Mar's Falcon & Hawk Ultralights are within your specs (the steel is AUS8 but AFAIC it's a good steel for a 3" folder) and price range if you get the basic models and both of my Al Mar's have been outstanding knives.

HTH,
