Do you know if there is a knifemaker that can take a Cold Steel Tanto, remove the Kraton handle material, and re-place the Kraton with "ray skin" and a silk/cord wrap?
If this is possible and you know someone that can do a quality job, please let me know.
If someone could post a picture of the cord wrapped handle on the Cold Steel Imperial Tai Pan from a Cold Steel catalog I would appreciate it.

I regret that I cannot answer your question.

I will suggest that you would have much more of a chance of finding what you are looking for if you were to post this thread on either the Custom Knife Forum or the Shop Talk forum; both are on this General forum.

Bimmer,
I don't know if they can do your specific job, but, take a look here: http://www.sunrisecustomknives.com/repair.html
They do knife handle conversions and I believe that Paul?? is also a forumite.
I have no experience with Sunrise, but they have been mentioned here several times in the past and I marked them for a possible job in the future for myself.

Post again after you get the work done. I'm sure that lots of us here would be interested in seeing the results.

Good Luck!!

"I just sent an email to Sunrise Custom Knives. Thanks for the info."

Bimmer1,

That's a cool idea. Rayskin and silk wrap would be my preference. Still, you have to obtain a Cold Steel Tanto to do it to. Could you be thinking about the one I have for sale? I've been waiting on you

Let me know if you want it either way.

Bimmer1,

I was going to recommend Jay Maines of Sunrise River also, but someone beat me to it. Jay does and awesome job! Check him out.

"I contacted Sunrise River. He cannot do that type of work. I'll keep looking"

a Japanese-style handle can be a beautiful thing, but it belongs on a Japanese-style blade too. For non-Japanese designs like CS Tanto, a more contemporary wrap would probably be better. If you needed the traditional type, I could help ya out, but in this situation I'm afraid I can't...sorry.
