Possibly a Becker Brute BK1, Anyone own one? I would like to know your opinions about it. Especally choppig power, comfort, edge retention, sheath, and anything else (good or bad) you would like to inform me of. I am looking to get a large chopper for serious outdoor use around the $100-$200 price range. Someone recomended this kinfe to me and like anyother kinfe, before I buy it I want some opinions. Thanks.
Wade

There are a lot or good choppers available, it just depends on how many $$$ you want to spend. Just use the search function and you will find tons of info.

Also try searching other Becker models for comfort and edge retention. I can say that my BK7 keeps a good edge. The handle is comfortable but I modified it slightly for a more comfortable three-finger chopping-grip. Did got the Brute in my hands ones, but never did anything with it. IMO it looks and feels like a good chopping blade but you really need to find some review from a user.

Other choppers that are worth looking for: Becker 9 (BK9), Ranger RD7 or RD9, bigger Busse, SRKW BattleRat and RatWeiler or big new-line SRKW. Maybe even the new Ontatio-RAT RTAK2, but that one isn’t reviewed/tested on the forum jet.

Have you ever used a khukri? Check out the Himalayan Imports forum. These are serious choppers. All can be had for less than $200.00 (except for some decorated ones). The ank kholas are pretty much the "heavy duty" choppers of the bunch, but all will do the job.

try ted frizzell....mineral mountain hatchet works......he's been makin big choppers for 20yrs now, and has a great track record

For a dedicated chopper?..

Now, over 95% of my blades are either Busse or Swamprat, and I've got the big boys, but I'd snag a Khukri first or one of Ted's for pure chopping. Cheaper also.

A 16" WWII Khukri is high on the list for next Hurricane season.

If it's for more than just chopping, Busse or Swamprat jumps to the head of the line.

Order a Busse FBM and start saving for when they finally ship. You will have at least a few months to come up with the money before you get billed. If you want a big chopper, buy the best and don't look back.

FWIW, wade, and that may not be much being as I'm a knive newbie, when I was looking for a small chopper/survival knife, I kinda liked the Swamp Rat Camp Tramp. I imagine that if I were looking for a larger chopper, I might tend to look first to SR, as well. Maybe Busse, if I had money to burn.

Where & how to get a Swamp Rat is another story.

You should look on the sale section NOW.

There are a lot of them.
Always are a lot of Busses, but right now there are rats, beckers and more.
New as much as users.
