Hey I am on the hunt for a laser engraver to be able to put names and such on knives for people. Anybody know a machine that would do a good job for this?
 
You need a fiber laser they start at around $10k for a new one I believe
 
Cheap lasers won't mark steel. As REK said, fiber laser is the way to go.
Or, you could shop Ebay for a used diamond drag New Hermes panto graph engraving machine. $200-$300 should get what you need with one set of letters.
