My brother is backwards handed and really prefers carrying his folder in his left front pocket. He recently lost his EDC folder and I'd like to get him a new one for xmas. I need some suggestions for a knife he can operate entirely with his left hand. I personally like benchmade folders for my EDC, but I'm open to any suggestions. I'd also appreciate any suggestions for a good place to shop online, its been a while since I bought a knife online.

Help me give my brother a good xmas. Thanks in advance.

Most of Cold Steel's folders come with left and right side pocket clips and certain models like the AK-47 have the ambi thumb plate too. Not sure how you feel about Cold Steel but I've had an AK for over a year now and carry it every day and love it. G-10 scales and the TRI AD lock is amazing.

does he have a blade length or weight restriction/preference? what's the price range?

spyderco has a bunch of left hand friendly knives to choose from.

You can always look at the Spyderco Manix 2. It has a similiar lock to the Benchmade Axis lock. Even a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 will work well. I have all 3 types and they all work for me being left-handed.

Looking to stay ~$100 3-4in blade roughly.

from spyderco:

delica
endura
sage 3
manix2
para2 (it can be used ambidextrous, the only thing is operating the lock left handed might take a little getting use to).

benchmade has a few models like the griptilian or mini griptilian.

My recommendation is for the Benchmade 710, it can be found at an online retailer for about $130.00 or a bit less on ebay. If you want something a little less hefty in hand and for your wallet the 707 is a great choice. You could also get him a nice custom mini-grip in S30V for about the same as the 710 and as you are getting it straight from Benchmade you can get it engraved at no extra cost. For my money I'd take the 710 though... Make sure he can handle keeping the recurve sharp some set-ups are not great for it, if so look at the 940. Good luck!

As a lefty I can attest to the BM 710 being friendly to us "wrong handed" people, providing he likes the carry it tip up and I personally love the blade profile. The Kershaw RAM also fits the bill nicely, althought a bit smaller than the 710, which can be a plus for and EDC.
The Spyderco native also

CRKT has some southpaw models. I use the large M16-14SFGL as my weekend work knife. It's solid. I'd want one of the smaller model for EDC.
