Im looking for a machet to use around the yard and in the woods. Its gonna see some small trees and other stuff but mostly abuse!!! Im also trying to keep it somewhat cheap. I found the gerber gator machete for 19.00 and some cold steel machetes for about the same price. Any recommendations between the 2? anybody had one or the other.- Joel

Valiantco.com 24" survival golok, wicked sharp hand forged blade (actually it kind of scares me). Comes with ironwood sheath. Worth every penny.

Tramontina or Ontario. I would say the 14in Tram Bolo or 13in Tram Cane Machete. The Ontario's are pretty solid on wood as well.

i lean toward the ontario myself but the trams are apparently great bang for the buck.

Trams are great for use and abuse. They're extremely light because of the thin blade, but it also means they cut extremely well. On wood greater than a couple inchs in diameter you may want a heavier machete, since the trams tend to bury themselves and bind in the wood. Once you put a good edge on it and learn how to swing properly you won't need to worry about that on anything less than 3 inches in diameter.
