What brands make them today other than rough riders lookin fro something Sheffield to add to my meager slip joint and traditional knife collection.

Ibberson make a variety of them, including a traditional-looking army clasp knife.

The Joseph Rodgers and Ibberson names are owned by the same company now, so the knives are essentially the same. Jack Adams still makes them in Sheffield under the Nowill brand. Slaters still do one

I haven't paid any attention to the new owners of the Camillus names, but they have two nice -looking marlinespike knives, as Liamstrain suggested.
I see Les Stroud has hooked up with them.

Victorinox makes them on some of the swissbianco models, also called a sacking needle by SAK.

the black bladed camillus is made of vg-10-crazy for the price and also is a liner-lock IIRC. check out older bucks too, they can be found on auction sites and probably right here on the exchange at times. don't foget Boye knives, that's all he does, mostly, are sailing knives.

This guy really likes the Camillus. Warning - non-traditional knives: http://l-36.com/knife.php

It sounds interesting - one-hand opening, liner lock, locking spike, G10 handle. I wonder, though, about the titanium carbonitride coating. If the blade is symmetrically ground, wouldn't that just make it harder to sharpen? The exposed edge is still VG-10, which should be good enough.

Don't know anything about the Meyerchins or Sheffields but there are plenty of the pre-bankrupt Camillus, some Schrade and some Bucks up for auction, all very decent knives at some very decent prices. Keep in mind there are a couple of versions of the knives with a marlin spike; the riggers knife which has a locking spike and the yachtsman which has a non-locking spike.

Acme Camillus also has a more traditional spike knife in a bamboo handle. I won't say that the black one looks pretty cool, because it isn't traditional enough.

I believe Marbles and / or Colt makes a Marlin Spike knife.
I do not recall the brands I have (they be in my tackle box, in Idaho, that I have not seen in 6 or so years) are. They are all stainless, one is sheepsfoot and spike only, the other adds a deck plate key. I bought them at a marina and one of the big box marine stores that went belly up about a decade ago.

Jerry, do you have a source for that definition? I have always seen "rigging knife", "rigger's knife", "yachtsman's knife", "sailor's knife", and a few others used interchangeably. The old Buck 315 made by Camillus, for example, is called the Yachtsman but has a locking spike.

All threads need pictures and because Tyler doesn't have one yet, I will post some of mine.

Camillus they also made the Buck
