I have this posted in the gadget and gears area but I thought I would try here as well with another question attached:

We have to carry a medicine for my daughter 24/7. It has to stay below 72 degrees and it cost $4,000+ to replace. Our insurance will only cover one replacement per year.

We have been using a purse to carry it all and I am looking for a better system. My budget is tight right now but would love to know what is out there.

Here is what I at least have to carry:

I would love to have room to aid other, documents showing our daughters condition, instructions on how to administer the medicine in the event I and mom are unable (think we get knocked out or worse in a car accident), 1st aid items, blood clotting agents, chargers, flashlight, other edc type gear. The hard part is adding re-freezable ice packs. I have found a single pack will last around 4 hours in the summer. We have had to carry a soft portable cooler in the summer so we can pack more ice. Most importantly, the med has to stay below 72 degrees.

Let me know what details I am forgetting or if you have any questions.

Thank you for the info and suggestions.

Also: What blood clotting agents would you suggest for a 2 year girl. Super glue and heat but that would be the extreme and only if needed. Anything I can carry in the bag?

Thanks

that looks heavy...and since you want to add edc items too why not use a regular backpack? your options are almost limitless in that case.

I would but my wife carries it when I not there. The real weight comes from the re-freezable gel packs.

Thank you for the suggestion and links. I appreciate that and it looks to be a great carry system. I will have to look into that one. I may be able to mod it closer to what I am looking for.

I'm mostly looking for a bag with a extra installation to keep the actual med bag (the black bag pictured) colder longer. Inside the black bag are several parts to the med that need to be kept organized. There is probably 8 pieces. The soft cooler works but it only has one main large compartment and side areas. I'm hoping to find one that has a large insulated area that could be sealed off and a large dry area.

A thermos has been suggested but I'm not sure in how organized I could keep a thermos and how I could read the temp, if I placed a refrigerator temp gauge inside it.

I may just mod one

It would depend on the size of the med containers but you could use a shell insert designed for shot shells or several different things of that type there are lots. Most have a velcro backing that would be easy to attach to the inside of the soft cooler. For the other meds I'd pick up a surplus military med bag those are about 20 bucks and have plenty of organizational options. For wound care, quick clot unless she has allergies I'd ask her doc about that I'm unsure of using it on a small child. Other than that the usual things, gauze, pressure bandages, tourniquet, anti inflammatories, depends on you and your level of emergency care training as to just what all you want to pack. Some high energy snacks, extra socks that type of thing can be invaluable in a emergency. Walking out of trouble in wet socks truly sucks.

Here is a pic of the med bag they fold out with pockets for separating and organizing stuff, I've kept one with emergency supplies rotated as needed in the back of my SUV for years. Very handy to have. Its a M17 medical bag.
