Looking for a Multi Tool

Hi all,

I've never really looked into the smaller multi-tools, so I'm rendering if what I'm looking for exists. Budget is $50 or less. I'd like the following tools, without a bunch of extras to cut down on bulk:

- Knife, no serrations
- Scissors
- Bottle Opener
- Flat Screw Driver
- Pocket Clip (I can add on of need be)

Does such a tool exist?

Thanks all and God bless you!

Is that similar in size to their Micra?

Yes, it's roughly the same size, though the Squirt is smaller and sleeker.

The Squirt has access to its tools without having to open it up, except for the scissors.. All tools on the Micra are accessed by opening the two halves.

There are other flavors of Squirt, one with pliers and one set up for electrical work, with pliers that also double as wire strippers.

While the Squirt offers that bit of convenience, the Micra allows the handles to be extended, a big advantage in many circumstances, and has more implements on board. If you don't need pliers, the Micra is by far, IMHO, the more versatile mini-tool.

That may be, but I have absolutely no use for a multi-tool that uses scissors as its primary tool. For me, scissors are a nice to have, but I find more utility in a pair of pliers, and more often than not, the usefulness of the wire stripper/pliers on the ES4.

As far as Leatherman goes, you might have to compromise on the serrations, but I believe the Wingman fits most of your criteria. Otherwise you can keep your eye out for a used Wave to go up for sale and add the removable pocket clip to it.

You can look for an older Leatherman Skeletool. In the former days they used to use a plain edge instead of a combo-edge. Such a tool would fit your needs?

Maybe you can look for it at the secondary market. I bought mine in 2007/2008 and was very pleased with it. It used to have all of your specs.

EDIT: Forget what I was writting. Your tool should need scissors. LM Skeletool doesn´t have any. Sorry, my bad.

I can recommend the Gerber Dime: About the same size as the Leatherman PS4, it fits in the small fifth pocket of your jeans easily. I was a bit sceptical about the bottle opener, but it performs a lot better than the standard kind of bottle openers sporting on SAKs and the like.

I don't know of any small tool that has a pocket clip.

I carry my EDC knife in my RFP and a Micra loose in my LFP with my money clip. The Micra hits all the requirements that you list but is small enough to not need a pocket clip.

"Multi-tool" doesn't necessarily imply pliers, so just to be sure, do you want those as well? Because a Leatherman Micra or Style CS would work, as well as a Victorinox Classic or Rambler.

You also don't specify what you mean by "smaller." A Victorinox Compact could do the trick, or a Leatherman Sidekick if you want pliers. You might also look at Leatherman's Juice line to see if any of those configurations (maybe an S2?) would work.

I left it vague as to the form purposely, but I really wanted something only containing the tools listed. I figured the size would be dependent on that criteria.

That said, I really like the looks of the Micra or Squirt S4. A fairly legitimate pair of scissors is a big step over those in something like the Compact.

The Micra, Squirt S4, and Style CS all have pretty much identical scissors. I'm not convinced they're that much of an upgrade over the full-size Victorinox scissors on the Compact, though, and the Compact has a better screwdriver (not to be underrated—see below) and a can opener. (It is, however, larger than the other options.)

If you really want to keep it to the tools you list, the Style CS is definitely the most minimalist of the three. The only thing it lacks is a pocket clip, but I don't know of anything in that size category that doesn't. And there's a reason for that: these tools are tiny. The blade length on the Leatherman tools is 1.6". The screwdrivers are that size or less—much less, in the case of the S4—and may do the job in a pinch, but won't stand up to any more than the lightest duty work. Don't get me wrong, I own several tools of this size, and always have at least one on me, but it's never my only tool and I always carry something with a larger screwdriver.
