i'm interested in getting my first neck knife. the two major factors are cost (i'd like to keep it around $20) and weight. this would be used as a backup to my BM 710HS folder which is a backup to my CRKT Companion FB. it would also be carried when the other two wouldn't be practical (shower, running, etc.). i guess high corrosion resistance would be needed 'cause of water, sweat, etc. any ideas?

yeah, i was thinking about the arclite, but was concerned about the weight. is it heavy? i need something i can run/work out/rock climb without weighing me down. is it possible to forget you're wearing a neck knife? but the arclite does look good.

It's not that heavy. I wouldn't really say it is so light you will forget you are wearing it, but it isn't uncomfortable to wear while doing physical activity.

CRKT Fixed Falcon - have been using one for a few weeks now. Keeps a good edge, slices well - leather, rope etc.

I wore the Arclite around my neck on a 5-day kayaking trip and never noticed it was there until I needed it. Cord-wrapping the handle adds some bulk, but no real weight, and makes it much more comfortable to use. It is a great design.

How about a BLACKIE COLLINS BUDDY SYSTEM KNIFE manufactured by MEYERCO KNIVES, under 20.00 bucks, lifetime warranty ,overall length 5 1/8 ",salt water safe ,lightweight. can be ordered through NDS PRODUCTS.COM,SMOKY MOUNTAIN KNIFE WORKS. PICS AT NDS PRODUCTS ,dont let the cost and the looks of the knife fool you this is a great neck knife for the money. I own a couple of them and they are great little knives good luck ;)

imho the best necker for the money is the livesay woo, kinda hard to get now, but the cammilus arclite is also very good, prob more functional thean the woo though i like the woo's looks better myself.

Try one of Larry Ramey's neckers. I have one of his Ti 3" neckers and it's great.

Agree wholeheartedly with the Camillus Arclite. Plenty light, good enough sheath and chain, in the $teens. A best buy.

I´ve heard, the sheath of the camillus arclite is not holding the knife securely.

Any experiences, opinions about this?

The arclite is made of 420 steel which I don't care for but agrussell has them made from D2 steel so I got that one.

Fallkniven WM-1 (VG-10 steel), Kydex neck sheath. Very sturdy, convex grind, 3.5 mm thick blade, full tang, handle very good for for a Filipino grip.

Well, the D2 version is way over $20 and the corrosion resistance isn't as good as 420 so the original, in mediocre steel, is the only one that fills his original requirements.

And, yes, the Kydex sheath is quite secure.

thanks everyone for the input. i stopped by the local knife shop today and handled the arclite, becker necker, and BM 160. i don't like buying knives without handling them first so i will probably decide on one of these (unless there is a huge concensus saying a different knife is worth getting online without handling it). i really liked the BM becuase of its grip and weight, although it was $40. is it worth waiting and saving for (twice as much as i had planned) or will the others do the same for less? are the woo knives as a heavy and bulky as they look? the Larry Ramey neckers look light, but kinda small; have you experienced this? sorry for all the questions, but like i said, i don't feel comfortable buying knives without handling them first.

If you are interested in a Livesay Woo, I ordered one 3 weeks ago and have already received it.

Hi Guys
not a great fan of neck knives, but recently added a Soldier of Fortune 20th annual WOO to my collection. Neat little tool for the money.
