Looking for a new axe for splitting and chopping. Which would you advise: Wetterlings, Husqvarna, Fiskars or Snow & Nealley?

I don't think you can really go wrong with these choices. I'd go with any of them that isn't a fiskars. I don't care for the idea of a plastic handle on a full sized axe.

Agreed with above - any of those would be great choices except Fiskars. My reason isn't the handle though, I just find Fiskar's edge holding capabilities to be pretty rubbish.

I agree that Fiskars have softer metal, but I think they are good axes. I have had some serious quality issues with Snow and Nealley. Their axes also have fairly thick edges, which makes them good fro splitting, but not great choppers. The axe you pick will depend on what size you want and how much you want to pay. I find that Gransfors Bruks, Wetterlings and Husqvarna are close to the same quality. You may also want to take a look at the Council Tool Hudson Bay axe. Their quality control is not great, but the design is good.

Just a note but I learned here on the forum that S&N moved their production to the far east so make what you want of it...
