Looking for a new carry knife

I am thinking about getting an assisted opener for a new carry knife. I like the leek's but I don't want one with a metal handle. They just scratch too easy. I though I saw a leek with a smoothed g10 handle, but I cant seem to find it anymore. Do they not make these anymore? Has anybody sanded down one of the textured g10 handles on one of the leeks and hand good results?

Does anybody have any other assisted openers that they'd recommend?

The G-10 Leek has a S30V blade and runs about $ 70 or so. It's a smooth G-10 finish and I haven't had any pocket issues with it. The model number is 1660G10, and can be found thru several dealers here.

I cant seem to find any sites offering the smooth one. When I look up 1660G10 all I get is the textured handled g10 version. Would you mind sending me a link to a site with the smooth one?

When I say smooth, I'm referencing this handle finish against the coarse G-10 Leek.

It's not as smooth as the metal handled Leeks, but then again, it's not meant to be. G-10 can be sanded down using a 400 or so wet paper. But make sure you wear some type of respirator, because G-10 is nasty stuff and even a little bit of it does nasty things to your lungs.

Or look for a 1660PG, which is the polished G10. That or a Random or Mini Task have the polished G10 you're looking for.

Look for a PM or email...

I just got a Zero Tolerance 0350 and highly recommend it. The handles are g-10 and very grippy. So if you want a smooth g-10 handle, you'll have to sand them down. Make sure you use a respirator as was mentioned above. G-10 dust is killer. I'd say, use a respirator while wet sanding under running water to further minimize the dust from getting airborne.

The ZT 0350 is very robust (solid, tanklike). The liner is among the thickets that I've seen. The knife comes with an s30v slightly recurved blade. Cost is about 112 bucks shipped. Can be had with dlc or satin. Satin is only available from knifeworks.

the centofante 3 and the g10 leek are nothing alike in my opinion.

there is the kershaw skyline and kershaw od1. though they are not assisted, they are opened just as fast with the flipper, and resemble the leek more i think.

there is also the kershaw whirlwind, a nice AO.

The OD-1 is a great knife for the price, but not AO. The flipper cam system is as fast if not faster than some AO's.

For reference, here's two quick shots of a comparison group: The Random Task, Pack Rat, G10 Leek and Coarse G10 Leek.

The Random Task is polished, the Pack Rat's G10 is done like the 0350, and the first Leek is the standard G10 and the bottom one is the coarse G10. All are SpeedSafe equipped.

You can get an idea of the G10 finishes:

the metal leek's really don't scratch that much to be honest. I carried mines daily for a year in my pocket with my keys hitting it the entire time and it didnt really do anything to the finsh at all. My SS byrd crossbill is scratched to hell though but like I said, my leek seems just fine.

its also a daily carry and your gonna be using it to cut all types of crap so I wouldnt worry about it getting scratched. Id be more concerned if it would hold up to the task at hand and how it keeps its edge as well as weight and function.
