Its time to put the para2 into retirement until I get the rust off her. So for now I'm looking for a new blade for EDC.

Must be:
under 50$
easy to sharpen
hold a good edge
good corrosion resistance
fast deploying
simple
strong
versatile
last long
Made in USA

I'm thinking the Kershaw skyline but I wanted to hear what other options were out there.

The Skyline is the only knife I can think of that meets all the criteria, except, the bead blasted finish is prone to rusting. If you polish the blade it will help a lot. If you're willing to buy a Japanese blade, the Dragonfly 2 in H1 steel meets the other criteria. H1 steel does not rust.

Skyline is a very popular knife with good reason its a very well laid out design. you could also get a delica4 right around that price range.

I was gonna say Skyline before I even saw that you were thinking the Skyline. KershawGuy had some blems for $25

Check the spyderco salt line! I got the dragonfly for $45. It's awesome! There are larger models...h1 is amazingly corrosion resistant

Kershaw Blur, Leek, Skyline, Zing, OD-1 (latter two are discontinued, but still pretty readily available)

I think all the US-made Spydercos and Benchmades are going to go well over $50. Occasionally Griptilians & Mini-Grips and FRN Natives & Manix's pop up around $50 on the exchange though.

From what I have read 14C28N is pretty rust resistant?

I don't want to steal to OP's thunder. But I am in the same boat except I would like to add to the want list.

I would like the same and a deep carry clip.

And s30v would be awesome. I would be willing to spend +/- $70 if it meet all criteria.

It is but the bead blast finish is not. It basically makes a rough finish on a microscopic level that allows rust to begin to grow easier. A steel can be very corrosion resistant and kill still rust with a BB finish. Except H1, it is actually rust proof but doesn't hold a very good edge. At least not in plain edge.

After a while, H1 holds a fantastic edge in any configuration, it is work hardened.

Ive had almost all of the knives that were mentioned so far, and my favorite out of them is the rat 1.
Its very reminiscent of a para 2, flat ground, great ergos, similar dimensions. Its a fantastic knife for $90, much less the $35 you should be able to find it for.

That being said, get a torx driver, open up your para 2, clean all the bits, polish the washers, douse the blade in wd40, take some 000 steel wool to it, and put it back in your pocket.

This is of course the ghetto way to do it, if you have better tools, at your disposal to clean it with, use them. The point is, get your para 2 going while there is still life in her before you abandon ship.

Get a Becker Eskabar. Its cheap, small, made in the USA, and there is nothing that deploys faster than a fixed blade. Did I mention they are sharp and hold a good edge?

I know you're not looking for an assisted knife but the Kershaw Cryo would be a GREAT choice. It's an awesome little knive. Also the CRKT Shenanigan is a good choice.

I've had the same Salt 1 for 3 or 4 years and given 4 away in that time that I regularly sharpen for them. Mine and my dad's hold an edge essentially the same as new, which is far from fantastic. I assume the others are about the same because I am asked to sharpen them often. In fact one friend who is far from a big knife guy no longer carries his because it dulls so quickly. I wish it worked better but that is my (our) experience. I still appreciate the knife and the fact it doesn't rust and have carried it EVERY day since getting it as a money clip so I always have it as I'm on the salt water a lot.

I know it is a work hardening steel but paper wheels and a Sharpmaker/strop don't seem to have the same effect as large industrial hollow grinders I'm assuming. At least not the way I use them, though I'm not sure how much effect they have from how quickly it dulls. If yours hold an edge better that is great and I wish mine behaved the same.
