Have carried a Benchmade HG Grippy for a while, then a Kershaw Leek. Now i am looking for a new general purpose knife. I come to the experts for this one :P

Needs: 3-4 inch blade, Tip up carry available, Plain Edge, inconspicuous pocket clip.

Wants: Black blade/handle, 154cm/S30V/VG10/some other high quality steel.

Do not wants: Tanto, Super cheap handle feel (looking at you, griptilian....)

Price range: up to 150

Been looking at a BM 730/740/950, maybe a spyderco (if only the paramilitary had tip up carry) Looked at a Lone Wolf T2 Tactical, but dont know enough about it.

Thanks all, really appreciate the help!

I'll be the first to chime in for Kershaw: the Junkyard Dog II, Spec Bump and RAM all come to mind, and come in various handle materials, blade steels and finishes, and many have reversible clips.

Good luck!

Check out the new Buck Vantage Pro. G-10, S30V, low rider clip, flipper, etc. Well under your price limit. They are supposed to hit the streets any day now.

How about a Spyderco Police 3 or a Benchmade 94x series? I think you would like both of those. GOOD LUCK!! Kevin :D

Kershaw 1660G10 is a possibility. Its a Leek varient with black G-10 handles and S30V blade. Only problem is the blade is bead-blasted, not black.

I'm not real familiar with their whole line, but I know that Emmerson makes several nice (non-tanto) folders with black 154CM blades and G-10 handles that you might want to check out.

JYDII is tip-down only and I would call the pocket clip the exact opposite of inconspicuous ;)

The RAM however is an excellent suggestion

Go with a para military or military, you'll get used to the tip down clip.
Or you could always send it to STR and get a tip up conversion.

Kershaw JYD 2: unfortunately, tip down, large silver pocket clip.
Spec Bump: Love the blade, not sure about lock, no tip up :(
RAM: Looks awesome, dont know anything about HAWK Lock
Buck Vantage: Beautiful knife, def. loooking into it.
Kershaw S30V: also beautiful, but ive heard about a weak liner lock. Any truth to that?
ZT 0200: Looks great, adding to list.
Spyderco Police 3: Thats not a knife... THIS is a knife! Very big, i'm likin it.
Benchmade 94x: not sure which would be the best for me, but added to list.
Kershaw 1660G10: Not looking for another Leek atm.
Emerson: although i will feel mall ninja, definitely added to list. Sexy knives.

Thanks for the help all, keep throwin em out!

I'd go for something Kershaw....with their 14C28 steel they have a great range of knives in your size and price range.

We lost our beloved forum. Bladeforums are going to be begging for a kershaw subforum so we stop bothering general knife discussion.

Does anyone know why they got rid of the Kershaw forum? I poked around there several times and it seemed to have a strong following. That's too bad.

ZT0500. It has 154CM blade steel that is DLC coated, argureably the hardest, most durable coating available. G-10 handle slabs over an aluminum frame of 7075 aluminum alloy, the hardest and heavy dutiest aluminum. The clip is short, thin, set for tip up carry, and most important, it is a deep carry clip that allows the knife to dissapear into your pocket. The Hawk lock is excellent and gives secure, and solid tight lockup. For me it is a perfect edc that is my current edc. Oh yeah, online cost is around $145.

If you are OK with liner locks, I would definitely go for the Lone Wolf T2 with drop point blade. You can still find them around NIB, they go for 120-130$ with the black FRN scales, 10-20$ more in black and green micarta or cocobolo. They have an excellent S30V blade with a flat grind and are very sturdy knives. Now, if you find a T3 NIB below 200$ go for it. Its huge but you have to hold one to believe it. The early models do not have T3 written on the blade and they have titanium scales. They later switched to stainless liners and therefore these models are a bit heavier but just as nice.
If you do not like liner locks, then I suggest any Benchmade Axis lock that you like inside your price range. The 520 is a very good model, it has a very nice drop point blade, flat grind, and wonderful aluminum scales.

We don't know. If you read the post it was something like. "Conflicts of interest between kershaw and bladeforums and they couldn't find common ground to stand on concerning an issue." That's how I saw it but it could be different. It will be settled hopefully in the near future.
