hello all. im new to the forums as well as ESEE knives.

im wondering what would be the best choice for an EDC/farm knife.

thanks for the input.

EDC, the Izula or Izula II would be hard to beat. If you think you wouldn't mind something a little bit larger, the 3 is also a great choice. Welcome!

Im actually looking for a fixed blade so the HEST is out if im not mistaken.

Do you think the 4 is too big to carry around all day? it might not actually be everyday, either. maybe just when im in the field or working.

The Hest is a fixed blade. The Hest folder is almost out. I love the Hest for work/utility knife. You'll be happy whichever you choose. 4 is great too, especially out in the field like you say.

lol i guess i was thinking of the Hest folder then. ill have to take a look at the Hest fixed and see if i like it.

hi, for a farm work everyday knife the hest fixed blade is great, i use mine everyday on the ranch. the prybar is very handy for working on fence.

take it easy

I would say the hest or the 3. They both have similar blade lengths, but the hest is thicker and it's more versitile. If you like the looks of the hest ( i do ), Then i would go for it.

In my opinion is the ESEE3 best for fixed blade EDC, im using ESEE4 now and its amazing blade! Ok it's not for city EDC but for farm why not? :)

Definitely. The HEST makes for a bang up ranch knife. While I was initially skeptical about the prybar, damned if it ain't handy to have.

thats what im really looking for, is a knife to EDC on the farm. i live in the country so knives are pretty standard.

I looked at the HEST and i didnt really like the looks of it. im sure its a great knife, though.

what kind of tasks do you usually do around the farm? butchering animals, maintaining fence lines or clearing out tree limbs and such? you can easily go from an izula to junglas or machete. if all of the above then an izula or esee-3 paired up with a junglas is perfect.

im looking for a knife that will do a knifes job. ive got the proper tools for fence repair and clearing trees so i dont need a knife to do those things. im looking for a knife to carry on my belt that is just a little bit different than the one i have now (buck 110). my first choice was the six but its just huge, so the 4 makes more sense.

you might also look at the Izula or Izula 2 -- very capable blade out of proportion for its size, and a little thicker than the blade on the 3 (although also a bit shorter)
I find myself dropping an Izula in my pocket more than I do putting my 3 or 4 on my belt when doing stuff on the property. (and yes, I have fence pliers for fencing, too)

I have a feeling that i will end up with an izula soon as well. im getting the 4 for christmas, and will probably buy an izula shortly after the new year. so if the izula and the 4 make a good combo, i'll be set.

I've been carrying the Izula on the farm for a couple years and it does everything I've ever wanted it to do. Between the farm and working for the game and parks here it has gotten tons of use. I have thought about getting a HEST fixed blade but the Izula is so convenient, carries in my front pocket just fine and is a great size overall. I think an Izula II might be a serious contender with the fuller handle though, and it should still pocket carry very well.

I have a 4 and ordered the 2 this weekend - with just this "cover my bases" kind of thinking.
