Looking for a new, specialized knife

Greetings! I am a "knife guy" who is looking for something new. I need a practical Zombie killing folder. I have seen Gerbers shameless product placement in The Walking Dead but I am not convinced that they are the best way to go.

I have seen some fixed blade "Zombie knives" recently; these are regular knives from regular product lines that have had their regular handles replaced with specialized Zombie killing neon handles and "Zombie!" blasted across the blade as an added layer of protection against the undead, however I am curious what kind of mid-ranged price folders from say Benchmade or Spyderco you think would be better suited to the task of "braining" a zombie, which may or may not be imminently upon us.

For you undead unbelievers, let's just theorize on the subject.

Folder would be the last thing id want to use.
My choice would be a katana or machete, maybe a long kukri.

well If you want a folder that can kill as many zombies as your heart desires then Id say benchmade 275 Adamas its biggest brute in the mid price range

Spyderco Police since it has a long thin blade. Zombies die (re-die?) when you stab them in the brain right?

Go with something from Zombie Tools. They know how to make polearms and swords that both interpret historical weapons with a fair degree of accuracy and also perform with excellence against flesh and bone. They basically took the whole zombie trend and used it to finance their education and professional development in high performance cutlery, with sizes ranging from 12" bowie and khukuri blades to 30" bastard swords (soon to be released).

When you speak of zombie killing you speak of chopping through human vertebra, cranial bone, and tissue. Usually this means both throwing out shorter weapons and those that lie on both ends of the toughness/maintenance spectrum. Spring steels provide an excellent compromise without really compromising much. Filipino weapons (from Traditional Filipino Weapons et al) and Japanese weapons (from Cheness Cutlery et al) excel at both holding an edge and regaining sharpness with less than optimal tools in compromised situations. However, I've found quite the plethora of European, Japanese, Nepalese, and Chinese weapons dating to the Medieval Ages and back to the Roman Era in Zombie Tools' catalog and feel that their low prices belie their performance capabilities.

Or you can always buy a custom. There are many makers on here who are highly experienced (long wait times and high costs) or just getting started (dichotomous) who will work with customers willing to cooperate.

Oops, you stated you want a folder for cutting hoards of pain and fear desensitized humans. Forget everything I said, and good luck!

I love that you said, "Practical zombie killing folder" :D

If you want a mid-range priced folder for "killing zombies" I'd recommend looking at cold steel. They have some almost comically oversized folders that would be perfect for zombie slaying and they are well built.

I'm a practical guy, what can I say:) I have a Recon 1 spear point; that's what I have if sthf tonight...

Skulls are hard, and blows might glance off because of the shape. If I had to face the undead hordes with a pocket knife, I sure as hell would want one of Cold Steel's giant folders. Good size and reach, plus a strong lock. Something like an Espada, Talwar, XL Voyager, Spartan, you catch my drift.

tiguy7 Its probably too much to hope you accidentally gave them my shipping address instead...it kinda looks like the knives from that Star Trek mirror episode. Looks good for use against Zombs or if an unexpected career advancement opportunity presents itself:thumbup:

Bedlam and Szabo on order. Its kind of funny, a while back the CDC and some local municipalities did a "zombie awareness" campaign aimed at getting people set up for real emergency situations by preparing for a zombie outbreak. It worked here too I think because I only use knives(I'm not some principled movie character that refuses to touch guns but always manages to kick more ass than remotely possible under the conditions of knife or bare hand fighting, I just keep it real for my own needs and comfort level) for personal defense. I have a good BM fixed blade and I just needed to work out my larger folder kit. I also have solid small/med folder options too so the Bedlam and Szabo will be welcome additions. Cold Steel makes some ridiculously huge sharps that might be nice someday, but really at what point do you say "Why am I buying a folder that doesn't even fit in my pockets?" Bedlam and Szabo are close but still small enough you don't need a second person to help you operate it...

thank you CapitalizedLoving for the insight none the less. I appreciate the information.
