Looking for a new Spyderco

So, here is the current composition of my Spyderco collection:

1) Tenacious (8CR13MOV, black G10)
2) Paramilitary 2 (S30V, black G10)
3) Dragonfly 2 Salt (H1, yellow FRN)

I am going to add a millie (feel like it's one of those quintessential Spydercos that everyone should own at least one) but would like to add something else with a blade length between the Dfly and PM2.

This will be in my workday EDC rotation (the other primary blades in this rotation are a Kershaw Cryo G10 and a Victorinox Electrician in silver alox). I work in an office environment so primary uses will be opening packages and mail, cutting string, and occasional food prep kinds of tasks.

Other considerations:

Handle: prefer G10 or the Spyderco FRN (probably black or grey) but open to suggestions; also I think I've determined that the integrated finger choil like you have on the Dfly or PM2 is a necessity - super comfortable to me

Lock: I have liner locks, frame locks, slipjoints, and lockbacks in my collection. I have never handled the ball bearing lock on something like the Manix, but if it operates similarly to the axis lock on a Benchmade, I'm probably not a fan.

Blade: 2.5"-3.25" in length, prefer plain edge; open to suggestions on steel - will be affected obviously by price point

Price point: ~$100 or less

Hopefully those are all the considerations (looking at them written out, I feel really "picky"). If I think of something else as you guys pass along suggestions, I'll update. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Spending other people's money is fun.

First thought for me is the Sage 1 carbon fiber, which is right around your price point. Awesomeness in every respect, and it won't scare the chicks at the office. Honorable mention to the Native 5. The Delica is a winner, and saves you about $40. That's just the tip of the iceberg.

Link.

But yeah, I'd get the Sage 1.

Lightly used Caly 3 in ZDP.

Just spend the money and get a new Caly 3 in ZDP. You won't need anything else for the tasks that you've described and probably won't find any knife that you like better. Well, at least that's been my experience so far.

If sticking to the $100 max is a must, then I'm not sure what would work for you. The Sage 1 can be found for slightly more than that and it would be an excellent choice.

Going for about $100. Don't mind spending a few extra bucks, but $115+ might be pushing the budget since I'm also picking up a millie.

^ THIS.

I just picked up a Sage 1 myself. I don't work in an office, but I wear a suit and I think the Sage 1 is a perfect suit knife for the materials and price point plus the blade length is right around legal just about everywhere. Get it

Thanks for the tip. Only hangup on the Delica is it doesn't create that integrated finger choil when open, does it?
I don't really worry about finger choils, unless it is big enough to double as a self defense weapon.
The Delica may be the most popular EDC knife in the world. I prefer the Endura and the Native, but I have an Orange Delica. Every collection has to have a Delica. ;) I gave my Uncle one and he loves it. I gave my daughter a Purple one and she really likes it as well.

Agree with Sage 1...OR...wait until the new lightweight Native 5 hits shelves, which from what I hear is supposed to be very soon.

It might be little too big for your tastes, but I am always surprised to not hear the Stretch being talked about more.

For a 3" or so blade I would go with Sage 1 for less than $110 from the big river store. Alternate choice would be the Native 5 for less money. Delica is a great knife too, especially if you're on a budget, but I prefer the 50/50 choil in the Sage and Native for the way they handle.

Pick up a Sage, Chaparral, or Delica4 FFG. I have one of each, and any of them would be a good choice. I think the delica would be better with a finger choil, but for an office knife the lack of a finger choil shouldn't be a deal breaker.

The Native5 is an awesome knife, but a bit chunky for an office knife.

FYI, the best letter opener of all time, IMO, is the Kershaw Leek. The Delica4 FFG is #2. YMMV.

My next spyders will be the cruwear mili and the camo dlc pm2 even though I own 2 of each. I wasn't sold on spyderco when I first got the mili and took issue with a few minor things but I went for the brown sprint run pm2 and was sold.
