I am a LEO and lost my VG-10Police on duty the other day. My department is going to buy me a replacement and with some extra cash on hand i was looking to upgrade.

I am eyeing the Para 2 black and the Manix 2. Also tempted with the Embassy (auto opener), does anyone have experience with Spyderco's that are auto's? I didnt realize they got into this niche.

Any help would be great! And yes I am staying with Spyderco.:D

Para2 no doubt:thumbup:. While the Manix 2 feels nice in hand, I don't like the ball bearing lock as it feels considerably stiffer than the Benchmade Axis lock. As well the Para2 is lighter, easier to close, and has more belly for slicing.

I concur:thumbup:

The Para 2 is a great knife, and one of my favorite Spydies. But if you like the size of the Police 3, see if you can check out a Military before ordering anything. Very similar blade length to the Police, almost as light as the Para, has the same shape/belly as a Para 2 only larger, and perfect for wearing gloves.

Can't go wrong with either, but the Para 2 is significantly smaller than the Police.

If you prefer more of a larger size 4" blade I'd suggest the Military or Manix 2 XL, If you're looking for more of a mid-sized (3.5in blade) I'd go with either Para 2 or Manix 2. (both of those two come in sprint run steels, that will stay sharper significantly longer than the standard S30V which is a premium steel already)

Sprint run Manix 2s, Para 2s, and Militaries.

I would give a nod to the Military as well. It carries well, is fast and light in weight. I think the transition from a Police to the Para series, may be disconcerting where the blade length is concerned.

I'd go with the Para 2 ( the compression lock is awesome ) or the Gayle Bradley ( CF and CPM-M4 is a killer combo).

Take a look at the Military or Para-Military 2 and see which one you like best. Kind of a dark horse suggestion, but the Vallotton Sub Hilt might be an option as well.

Good luck!

ETA: The Resilience might also make a good duty knife. Much more affordable so you could pick up a few of 'em and not be afraid to beat them up or break them.

@blades
my old police had a stainless handle and clip which i did not like, was looking to go with something different. I like the G10 handles of the newer knives, but am not totally sold on s30v since my vg-10 could be honed really easily. After looking at the military, I may go with that.

I was also hoping to get something that could be opened easier, if possible with a flick of the wrist. I dont think I will be going the auto route due to the reliability of the standard folders being so much better.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
