hey guys! so I'm finally finding a bit of cash and i want to get a new knife! and as the title says I'm looking for a tactical overbuilt folder. I've mostly been looking at striders, Emerson's, southern grinds etc.

don't really have a budget either!

thanks guys, kcco

The fairly new Brous T4 it the 1st 4" folder the really strike me as one that I myself would like very much...but I'm buying a PS4 today so knife budget is shot for a while lol.

Have you looked into Zero Tolerance knives? The 0560/0561 and 0300 series scream "tactical overbuilt folder" and they won't necessarily break the bank.

Overbuilt is easy to find these days.

Are you wanting more "cool" factor or do you want proven brute strength?

For cool factor, I like the ZT 0300. They have the look and feel that screams tactical but the assisted opening is what really make it impressive.

For Brute strength. Cold Steel Spartan is one of the strongest folders in existence. I would put this knife up against anything in any price range as far as brute strength performance.

Last: If you want both at the same time. That's easy, Andrew Demko AD-10 !

If you want really want overbuilt tacti-liciousness, you got two choices: Dark Ops and Extrema Ratio.

Consider the Extrema Ratio Rao! It's like two bricks joined together with a hinge!

Or the Dark Ops StratoFighter Covert Folder...it even emits "toxic" green tacti-smoke!

Seriously though...you want "good" or you want "awesome looking"?

There are a lot of really well made folders to choose from, I like the zt line, emersons are nice as well. My personal favorite is the zt550 brutally elegant in execution and very smooth.

Sub-$200 folders:

Benchmade 275 Adamas wins in all-around overbuilt, hard use functions. The lock is incredibly fast but rivaled in strength only by tri-ad lock knives. The axis lock, however, is much easier to manipulate.

Cold Steel triad lock knives come in second place [Voayger/Recon 1/Lawman/Code 4/Spartan/Etc]. The lock is not quite as functional as the axis lock, and the steels are measurably worse.

ZT knives come in third place. ZT knives are generally a little over-priced for the materials you receive, and the designs are not very ergonomic for extended cutting tasks. The handles tend to be a little to clunky and sharp.
