Right now i have a Casio 3240. Looking to upgrade, but i do wear my watch on the inside of the wrist. So it does need to be slim and smaller then a regular watch. It has to have a digital out read, have the date, water resist/proof and i would also prefer a read out of the date (tue, wed, etc.) but its not necessary. I was looking at getting a Tokyo flash, but let me know if you have any suggestions. Price range of around a $100 willing to go over but not by alot.

3240 is the module number, shared by other watches. Your watch looks like a Casio W800H-1AV.

The second best seller on Amazon, a popular watch and it would help to know what feature(s) you want to upgrade. These are features people don't like:

  • Acrylic crystal which is flush with the bezel (scratch magnet)
  • No count down timer
  • Buttons stick out
  • Casio's strap, which is hard to replace
Some problems are not problems for everyone. For example, I don't mind acrylic crystals because the scratches are easily polished out. On the other hand, it's not something I want to do every day.

Two shot-in-the-dark recommendations for you.

Casio HDD600-1AV

Another $12–$13 watch very similar to your watch. The buttons don't stick out. The acrylic crystal is recessed under the plastic bezel, giving it a little scatch protection. According to Casio, it is 1.5mm thinner than your watch. Main time display shows the date and day of the week but not the year.

Casio Wave Ceptor WV59A-1AV

This watch, still in Casio's USA catalog, has been discontinued here. It is still sold in Europe and Japan, and Amazon sells the Japanese market Casio Wave Ceptor WV-59J-1AJF for $50. It sets time and date every night from a radio signal broadcast from Fort Collins in Colorado, Anthorn in the UK, Mainflingen in Germany, and Mount Otakadoya and Mount Hagane in Japan. Otherwise its features and size are similar to your watch. Water resistance is 50M instead of 100M: wear it in a driving rain but not swimming. Crystal is mineral glass which is more scratch resistant than acrylic, but it's a domed crystal which looks sharp but is more easily dinged. This older model Wave Ceptor cannot receive the time setting signal broadcast from Shangqiu, China: a deal breaker if you live in China, Korea or Taiwan.

Thanks for your input the biggest reason that i want to upgrade is that the time is not kept accurate after 2-3 days its off by about 1 seconds and after a about 3 months its off by a whole minute or more. Once i realized this in the first half a year of using it, its bugged the crap out of me. I want a similar watch in size but something that keeps time way more accurately and with buttons that are more stream line with the watch.

Does that help?

Watch manufacturers claim that the quartz movements they use are accurate +/– 10 to 15 seconds per month. Michael Lombardi at the National Institute of Standards and Technology's Time and Frequencies Services Group tested four beater watches "by applying some measurement and data analysis techniques that are normally reserved for laboratory type frequency standards" and his results confirm this.

Your accuracy of +/– one second in two or three days is typical. That is what the president gets from his TAG-Heuer Series 1500 Two-Tone Diver, which I would call an entry-level rich guy's watch.

If you need better accuracy, get a watch that synchronizes with a radio time signal. Casio's Wave Ceptor watches are the cheapest. If you are in the USA more than 600 miles from Fort Collins, your watch won't sync manually: but it will try to sync itself four times between 1 and 4 AM, and that does work (unless you're in Maine or Alaska). Put it in a window that faces the general direction of Fort Collins.

Thanks alot this really helped, i found one i actually like with the atomic clock radio receiver. The Casio GWM5610-1 G-Shock, i live with-in 600 miles of Fort Collins so it would be perfect.

Thanks alot i really appreciate it.

It looks like you found what you wanted, so that is taken care of, but for a few extra bucks, you should definitely try a zulu strap and adapters, if you haven't before. When the stock strap on my first g shock broke I decided to try out a set of adapters and a zulu strap, and now there is no going back! I think the nylon strap looks better and feels better. The only downside is that the nylon doesn't dry as quickly as rubber. Once you have the adapters on, you can also changed zulu straps in seconds, if you want a different color that day, or just want to give on a good scrubbing.
