Looking for a newbie EDC

Hi, I'm a bit new to knives and I'm looking for something to carry regularly.

From browsing and reading a little over the past week I've found 3 knives that stand out but not one of them has all the features I am looking for.

I want:
~3.5 inch blade
glass breaker
arc/piston/tooth lock (locks similar to these SOG locks)
tanto blade
partially serrated
*bonus points for cosmetics (all black, black coated blade for corrosion resistance)
*bonus for seat belt cutter
*bonus for a pocket clip that is very close to the base of the grip (If I'm not describing that well, a clip that leaves the blade fully concealed from inside your pocket)

If anyone knows of a blade that meets all the features I would have your babies.

The blades I've found that closest match my wants and meet my cosmetic taste are

Smith & Wesson Border Guard 2 Rescue Knife SWBG2TS
Smith & Wesson SWMP9BTS Mandp M.A.G.I.C. Assisted Opening
SOG AE07-CP Aegis Knife

If anyone has experience with these blades or advice to help pick one of the three I would be very grateful!

Thank you very much for any help you guys can offer!

Sounds to me your looking for something from benchmade.

also I would recommend stay away from the Smith and wesson.

perhaps the benchmade triage

For a newbie you sure have a tough list of criteria.

Try a Griptillian or a FFG Endura and see how that works for you. After a few months of carry and use you can refine your criteria from there.

Smith & Wesson Border Guard 2 Rescue Knife SWBG2TS

I have the Border Guard and I can definitively say that this is not a knife meant for typical EDC. The body is heavy and large (even larger than your hand), and the 4.4" blade is a monster. It will bulge in the pocket and draw attention to youself.

True that, I own one as my emergency knife I keep in my truck... The thing is a brick!

Kershaw glass breaker Blur checks nearly all your boxes... A great EDC knife, solid steel option and price range for a newb. Not a tanto, but it is a rather unique drop point that almost resmbles a tanto shape; (much better slicer though with lots of belly). To strap cutter, but the blade with the combo edge will cut straps just fine.
Doesn't have a deep pocket clip, but it sits well into the pocket, you can buy aftermarket deep carry clips for it, and/or an aftermarket kydex neck sheath to wear around your neck.

Fwiw it's a "only" a liner lock, but it's a tougher design then most typical liner locks.

Another vote for the Paramilitary 2 ... give one a try, beautiful knife.

No glass breaker.
No Tanto.
No belt cutter.
No deep carry clip.
No serrations.
No Axis/ARC lock.

Yeah guys, other than missing the mark on almost everything, the Para2 is exactly what the OP is looking for......

How about a suggestion that at least matches some of the criteria?

I think folks were just trying to urge him to buy a knife that he would actually end up enjoying. To me, his wish list reads similar to many knife aficionado's top ten worst features in a folder. Sometimes when you are new to knives, certain features might look cool in a picture but be less awesome in real life. I don't think folks are confused about what he is asking for, but rather gently urging him to re-examine his ideas. Now if he doesn't want to re-examine anything that's perfectly fine but it seems like a newbie looking for advice from a bunch of knife nuts would probably be open to such advice. :)

You essentially just described the SOG Tirdent Elite. Can be found here for $70 http://www.bladehq.com/item--SOG-Trident-Elite-Tanto-Spring--29788

Great find. Pretty much exactly what he is looking for. While it wouldn't be my choice I think you hit the nail on the head considering his requrements.

+1 I wouldn't consider myself a "knife aficionado" but when I read the requirements I was a little confused.

The Spyderco PM 2 and the BM Griptillian are both great knives. I own both and keep them in my EDC rotation. They will both set you back a little over $100. If that is out of budget for you check out Kershaw or Spydercos Byrd line. Both are good knives for the money. The Kersaw Kuro is about $20 and has about everything your looking for. As for the seatbelt cutter a combo blade will give you serrations as well as a little slicing power. Even though a well sharpened plain edge will do a good job too. Good luck.

So, I have this Sog, and i have to warn you that the seatbeat cutter slot is absolutely useless. The issue is the pocket clip gets in the way when you try to pull material through the slot, and it just wont cut. Add to that a particularly sloppy feeling spring assist. Smh, one blade I really wish I hadn't purchased.

One knife that ive seen that meets most of your criteria is a "Buck Csar T Responder" folder with the seatbeat cutter. Its a very heavy knife for the size, and has a thick blade however so it might not be for everyone.

I reiterate; Kershaw Glass Breaker Blur.

All the pro's of a Blur, a great little knife (especially for a beginner)
Most of the "extra's" the op wants, but not many of the more useless ones... From the op, the lock would be the biggest downfall missing, but again, most people who've carried Blurs can agree, even if it wasn't their cup of tea, that it is still a very adequate and quality made EDC.
