Looking for a nice folder, 3-4" blade

Hi all,
Just joined this forum today, hoping to get a recommendation for a new knife. I've been looking to get a fairly nice folding knife to EDC. These are the criteria I'm tending towards:

- Blade around 3-3.5"
- Arc or axis style lock
- Plain edge drop point or mild clip point blade
- Opens via a thumbstud.
- Ideally priced around $50. I'm not averse to buying used if I must

Of course the usual things apply; I want a knife thats strong, fairly comfortable to use, isn't a pain to sharpen, blah blah blah.

I've taken a look at SOG, and was considering the Flash 2, but I've read that the lack of steel liners leads to blade play. Some of their other models are interesting, but get expensive (Spec Elite, Visionary, Aegis, etc.). Benchmade is also looking like a strong contender, if I can score a Griptilian Mini for not too much. Are there any other brands/models I should be looking at? Anything I ought to know about the knives I'm considering now? Am I looking for the completely wrong sort of criteria? Is anybody even reading this rambling post anymore?

Thanks,
–Nico

+1 on the mini grip. I've got one and love it. However, be aware that the blade is just a tad short of 3 inches. Also, you will almost certainly not be able to find one new and stay at $50 or below. (I usually justify cost overruns to myself by considering the annual amortized cost of the excess over the expected life of the knife. If I spend an extra $20 on something that I expect to last for 10 years, that's only a couple of bucks per year.)

I carried the first flash and after about a year I gave it away I was so disappointed with the knife. The blade did not hold up at all. For the price and all the hype it got in magazines I was deeply disappointed I swore em off. Not sure if I got a bad one or what I know I have read people swearing buy the the 2's wasn't sure if I got the reject or people had not used em hard enough to really test them .. I recently started carrying a kershaw junkyard dog composite and really like the knife. I haven't had a chance to put it through a hard workout but so far I am impressed with the knife and kersahw. I know the non composites are a lot cheaper I was going to grab one I like the style so much. It fits my hand perfectly, opens as fast as some of my automatics easy to close and the size feels perfect for me.I have recomdeded the knife to friends and family.

Hey, I would totally recommend the Mini-Grip like most of the posters above me. It's an awesome knife for the price. It opens quick and closes really easily one handed, and feels pretty sturdy too. If you want a longer blade, the regular Griptilian would fit you perfectly.

Price wise, I'm sorry but I don't think I've seen Griptilians going for 50 dollars brand new, but if you shop around, you can usually pick up a Mini-Grip for 80 or so, and a full size for a bit more than 90. In my opinion, it's worth it to save up for a Grip, they feel like quality and it won't seem like a waste.

Good luck and hope you find something that works just right for you.
