hi. i would like to buy a ninjato sword and would like to buy an authentic one. anything under about $700.. and no, im not looking for a wall hanger. i want a real, battle ready blade. any suggestions on manufacturers?

Didn't Wally Hayes make one? I don't believe ninjato actually have any historical basis. Having a distinctively different weapon from the samurai would have spelled death for the ninja, for whom blending in would have been very important. You might be able to commission one to be made for not too much more than your budget.

Do yourself a favor skip the straight fake Ninja swords and if you want a short sword look for a decent Ko Katana not that they are that historically correct but they do work well and make great castle swords (close quarters)

I could be wrong but remember reading that the idea of a Ninja with a sword is mostly a Hollywood invention. It's widely believed that a real ninja in medieval Japan would likely not even have carried a sword of any kind. In that time period only the Samurai class were allowed to carry weapons. This idea of ninjas being these highly skilled invisible warriors is another work of fiction. In reality Ninjas would have been poor people who received a variety of very basic training in different areas with the sole focus being on assassination. Their weapons would have likely been things like poison, daggers, poison daggers, fire, explosives, shoving them off a cliff... oh the endless possibilities. However, any sword they would have carried would have to have been disguised as something else, similar to a sword cane, in order to avoid having their head removed. Of course this is only assuming that Ninjas actually ever existed and weren't just a boogeyman invented to scare the ruling class, which is actually considered a little more likely.
