Been looking for a knife that I can carry for those times we go out with family/friends to eat, to church, or just when I'm wearing something other then jeans.

Looking for:

Blade length no longer then 3"
Non serrated
Under $50.00
Not black
Non-tactical looking
Prefer a low riding clip for front pocket carry, tip up or down is not important
Locking style is not important, nor if it is assisted or manual opener.

TIA

You could check out the Kershaw Splinter.
It's a real beauty. The best price I could
find was here for $59.95.

If you like the splinter I got mine from New Graham Knives for around $75 with Quince wood scales.... very nice. The plain red and black splinter was mid 50's.

You do not even have to spend $50 for a great EDC knife. The scallion is a great knife and comes in a multitude of colors, for around $30. My Girls bought Me one for Fathers day. :D Great Ken Onion design, and not to scary when You have to use it at the church picnic!

I'm going off tangent a bit (so when is that new, huh?) and suggest upping your price a little. The reason is this:

So carrying a Composite Blade Leek gives you a 3" blade, Kershaw's revolutionary composite blade technology that joins a cutting edge of CPM D2 to a spine of 13C26, a frame lock, SpeedSsafe and an all around beautiful knife!

I've seen them on an auction site going for around $ 60, and there are some on-line dealers that offer even better prices. This would be completely acceptable at the church social. It is a very classy knife!

Forgive not trying to hijack this thread, but since You bring it up Don Vito,How does the cpm-d2 blade edge compare to other blade steels kershaw offers? Is it ever offered on knives as the only blade steel?

Speaking of weddings, The groomsmen at a wedding I attended were all given very nice microtec knifes! My friend said he was thinking of fishing poles, but one of his customers is microtec and made him a offer he could'nt refuse.

To my knowledge, they've never offered a full blade in CPM D2. Its cost prohibitive. As for the cutting ability, I honestly don't know! I've carried it a few times when doing the suit thing, but never had the chance to actually cut anything with it, except for opening the occasional envelope. And it dispatches them with no effort.

So the material itself (cpm-d2) is more expensive than for example cpms30v? Must be the reason it is only used for the edge only?

Is CPM-D2 less brittle than regular D2 tool steel? I thought one of the advantages of a composite blade was the hardness of the edge, and flexibility of the spine combining to create a more usable blade.

I EDC a composite leek reprofiled with a lansky to a 30 degree inclusive edge...cuts like a laser and only needs the strop once in a while. A friend of mine convexed his...I'm pretty sure he's splitting atoms with it.

I haven't had the chance to put my CB Leek to any hard work either.
But from what I've read in the Review threads, It's very close to S30V
in edge retention and is very tough.

Thank you for this, I just laughed my ass off.
