Looking for a Orange Spyderco Assist 1

I am thinking of picking up a Spyderco Assist in orange to have on me for some firefighting and SAR work I am getting into.

Does anyone know of an online source that currently has orange Spyderco Assists in stock? The main Spyderco website is showing them out-of-stock.

I also need a dealer that has them that is not charging a huge amount to ship internationally (New Zealand). I already found one dealer that has them in stock but is charging $30 USD to ship internationally which is WAY overpriced (I have had single knives shipped internationally before for less than $12 USD - unfortunately they do not carry Spydercos).

That may be a tall order. Most dealers want to be able to insure and track a shipment. That pretty well precludes anything other than Express Mail to most countries. Many now also require a $100 minimum order for international sales.

The $30 may seemed over priced but some people will not ship International unless it is the absolutely most secured method, of which is typically also the most expensive. One could ship that orange assist for less then $10 via USPS first class but you would not get any tracking or Insurance/required sigs ect ect. Also, if you pay through paypal, the seller would not be protected if he shipped it the cheap method so if you filed a claim, he might just get funds removed from his or her account even though they did all they were suppose to do. If they use a track able more expensive method, esp one that requires sigs like registered mail, then paypal will protect the seller from getting hosed in most cases (if an issue arises)

^^^ What they said. I get lots of requests to ship internationally and accept PayPal. The cheapest shipping method that satisfies PayPal is Global Priority, which is generally $45-55 minimum. It's easy to see this on the USPS website, but I usually get a rude reply and a complaint about gouging, profiteering, etc. :(

I am curious what shipping requirements are there for Paypal? I did not know such things existed.

I know for a fact that the small USPS International Priority Flat rat boxes ship for $13.95 and that price includes tracking and having to sign for it on the delivery end. Not sure if that meets the requirements or not.

I think that some to the frustration that international buyers have with shipping costs is that some dealers ship very cheap and others are MUCH higher for the same shipping options. For example, I am looking right now at one online dealer charging $13.95 (USPS Priority) and another charging $35 for the same shipping option on the same item using the same payment method.

Sorry but USPS International Priority Flat Rate has no tracking.

The last three packages I have had sent to me were all USPS Int. Priority and I tracked them all online.

According to the USPS website they are trackable as well...

One big note though - the small Priority Flat rate boxes are not trackable. If you use your own packaging they are trackable, even if the box is small. Not sure as to why this is. My parents discovered this when they were mailing boxes to me from the US.

Cant say for sure but it is possible that they are registering the package which is an extra i think $12, they may also add more insurance to the package than normally/automatically comes with it so that may also make it a bit more costly.

If you don't ship insured and trackable, and there are any delivery questions, PayPal will back the buyer and refund all funds, no exceptions.

I should have made clear that the $45-55 was for the medium boxes. However, the small flat rate box (1) is not insurable and (2) is only trackable if you add registered service for $11.50, and if you've ever sent or received something sent registered mail, you know it is the slowest service USPS offers because every clerk who touches the item has to sign for it personally, and they tend to avoid handling these if at all possible.

I cant remember for the life of me what the PO people told me about registered mail in regards to legality/court if something were to come up like the package get stolen :confused: Whatever it was, it made me feel better about using it when shipping International. It is slower but I like that everyone has to sign for it. Back in the day the US supposedly used registered mail to ship the hope diamond International.
