At my local knife shop I've had the oppourtunity to handle some Chris Reeve and Strider knives. I love the solid feel, smooth action and the look of the materials. Everything about them just is so nice. So heres the thing I have about $160 give or take. What production folder is going to get me the closet to the feeling and quality of a CR or Strider? The knife I prefer to have a 4" or shorter blade and be a great EDC.

I have been carrying Striders for the last month or so but prior to that all my hard use EDC was done with a ZT 0200 or 0350.

You just get a lot of knife for the money with the ZT's and you can pick them up pretty cheap.

If you dont need something that beefy you might look at the Benchmade Kulgara, that is one of the smoothest production knifes I have had right out of the box.

The ZT 0551 was a sprint run that you might still be able to get your hands on but the 0550 is still awaiting release.

If you can get a 0551 I highly recommend you do, its a great knife.

Spyderco Sage 2 hands down. Falls right around 160 new.

-s30v full flat ground blade with ti handles.

It is made in Taiwan, but the quality is top notch. It was designed to pay homage to Chris Reeve.

Zero Tolerance and anything Spyderco makes at their Taichung factory (Gayle Bradley, Sage, Chokwe, etc) would be the first things to come to mind.

Al Mar and Mcusta also make high quality knives. I like the Benchmade 943, but while it's obviously high quality, it's also obviously production.

I'm a big fan of the Buck/Mayo collabs, especially the TNT.
Its the missing link between the small and large sebenza.

The Spyderco Gayle Bradley was very impressive, as is my Hogue EX-01. Really good fit and finish and good bang for your buck.

They feel almost like semi-custom production pieces.

First that come to mind are ZT 301 or 302, or Sebenza small or large, which are both production folder models only in a step up in quality for how they feel and what you get. Strider to me have a very custom feel to them also but the finish is not really.
