As the title says, I'm hoping one of you gurus can recommend me a high quality 4 sided strop, I made one myself , it's not pretty but i am having great success with it , so now I want to buy a good one, thanks in advance .

Best regards

Hey man! Now I don't have a 4 sided strop but I got a great 3 sided 1 I got from dlt traiding post! And it works great! It even has a way to secure sandpaper on it for those tricky sharping situations. Look them up they work great!

It's really good give them a call if you got a question. I've gotten just awesome edges on my busse's and others with mine! The bark river forum on another forum site has people including dlt which will answer any question ya got .

I'm ordering that one and the flexxx il have 2 to compare, it maybe over kill but I like to compare products , thank you very much guys .

So educate me, please. Why four sided? Is there that much difference in compounds that you need four sides to refine the edge?

Same concept as using 400grit and moving on to 600,1200,2000
I start with white , then move up
To red then green , I'm not sure if I'm using the red right but in have been consistently producing razor sharp hair popping blades , my Bae which is asymmetric has been dull for a year , after that thread popped up I broke it out hit it on some sandpaper then white/red/green finished it on clean leather and it's hair popping

I like the dlt 1 cuz they have away to attach different grits of sandpaper too. It's pretty cool. I just use mainly the brkt green, black, and sometimes white. If your handy you easily could make it yourself.

..... this was to be my recommendation as well. I have two of his earlier strops, well made and he is a pleasure to deal with, just watch him around your sheep ..... ;) ;) (an inside joke there).

Andy

Doesn't your Avatar over there have a sheep on it? ;)

Flexxx probably makes a awesome product. I have a few strops made by Strop Man. They work very good.

Simply for informational purposes only, isn't this Flexx fellow the one who was banned for repeated violations of the sales rules. Refused to get a Craftsman membership, was banned after been given quite a few chances. Then went on a F-Bladeforums rant on another forum?

Just saying as we tend to protect our own around here, I know that I've been helped out many times, pay it forward. :)

As I mentioned earlier write to Dan at:

dan@jreindustries.com

And visit their site. It'll give you ideas.

I've been using one of his strops, bat and paste.... Take the time, and it has worked for me so far:thumbup:

I must admit ( shame here) to not being clear on which order to use the paste. I'm using black paste first, then green, followed by pink.... Then I strop without paste to polish up the edge. I'm I using the correct order?

I got both yesterday and have put a few knives through them , the Flexxx defiantly appears to be of better quality although they both get the job done very well .

The Dlt strop has some added features though, 3 large bars of compund , the flexxx strop only comes loaded

The dlt has a neat setup to connect sandpaper , the flexxx does not

The dlt is a slightly larger strop

The flexxx comes with a nylon cord which is nice to hold by, the dlt does not.

The flexxx strops leather is around 3/8 thick, the dlts is only around 2/8

All in all I say it's a wash, can't go wrong with either,

Thanks for the help guys
