I love to shoot and until recently didnt get to do it often, but I shot to actually keep score today, so over the next few months I plan to continue. Before it didnt matter much, but it would seem that after toting just minimal stuff to the range that I am going to need a range bag. Nothing huge, but ample (either one or 2 handguns ammo and the other assorted goodies) and something that can handle the job without falling to pieces. It would sure be nice if it didnt cost a crazy amount of money as well, I dont hand roll so think of it as money that I could be spending on ammo. Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Hi wasz-

I've had nothing but good experiences with the folks from W.Waller & Son up in Sunapee, New Hampshire. Their products are made in the USA and are of top-notch quality. I especially like the integrated locks on their Soft Safe variety of cases. Their range bags are equally as nice.

This is what I've been using: Stanley Mobile Tool Center. Between $20 and $30 at Wal-Mart or Home Depot.

Lots of storage options. I keep my rests, spotting scope, and hearing protection in that big bottom compartment, but it could easily handle a couple of handguns and ammo. In the rotating "drawer," I keep odds and ends like foam earplugs, thumbtacks, etc. The main compartment of the top box has cleaners, screwdriver set, bore-snakes, etc. And the top tray holds all manner of brushes, jigs, and tools. Has some storage compartments on top where I put shooting glasses. Patches go in the front fabric pouch. Extra bonuses: it has a flip up handle, and it rolls!

Stanley has several variations on this basic design.

My range bag/skeet shooting bag is the filson model 264. If I had to do it all over again, I'd get the slightly bigger model, the model 265. They can be found at www.filson.com High quality stuff that will definately be handed down through my kids, their kids, etc.

I'd look for an Army Surplus bag made from canvas. I used to have an Officer's Bag (French I believe) that was canvas with leather straps. Great bag, until I lost it.

The Master Series bags at Duluth Trading are fantastic too.

Get a large mouth tool bag at Homies (home depot).

I got a large one with 6 external "magazine" pockets, which I use for mags, cholke tubes, foamies or whatever..... Plenty of room for tools and a couple handguns inside. Muffs hang nicely from the carry handles. Cost all of 10 bucks.
