I came here about two years ago and asked for a recommendation for a knife. I eventually got this guy and I have been using it as my everyday knife ever since. It's great.

While I was looking last time, I found a knife maker who specialized in Damascus blades, and when I looked at his prices, they were a bit steep for me, then. Now I want one.

I looked through the "Gallery of Handmade knives" to get an idea of who I might go to for a custom knife, but I realized after page 10, that I had made almost no progress finding someone. They are all just so great, and there is no way for me to know if these knives are actually well made, if they will be able to make the type of knife I am looking for, if they specialize in something different, or if they are just pretty. (There is no offense to those there. I thought they were all amazing, I just literally don't know. They could all be the best knives ever made.)

So, here I am. I am looking to buy a knife for everyday use (for the most part), I would like it to be custom made, have a Damascus blade, a folder of a blade length no longer than 4 inches ( I think its 4 inches in NY?), and I would like it to have a clip. I understand some of the really good knife makers have a lot of demand, so they have long waiting lists and can be very expensive. With that in mind, I would like to set a price around $400, but it is negotiable. Also, 6 months.

I will make a list to make it a bit easier.
Folding with clip
Damascus Steel Blade
Custom Made
Able to withstand everyday wear and tear
No longer than 6 month wait
Negotiable $400 limit

Thank you for your help in this. If I get recommendations for makers, to narrow this down a bit, I can then go to their sites, or look for reviews on here for information on my own. I just want a starting point that was a bit more narrow.

How about just narrowing this down to knife makers who do good work with folding knives, with Damascus steel? Or give me some sort of info on why what I am asking for has no replies? I am not being snotty, I am genuinely just looking for information. Thanks againa.

Alan Davis. That's not a suggestion, I am telling you to buy a knife from Alan Davis. Its not even funny. He's here on BFC.

Alan Davis for you

Really Damascus customs are usually pretty pricey not leaving a lot of options @ 400$

Could be the combination of "custom damascus" and "$400 limit"...those don't really go well together.

One more vote for Alan Davis.
