Looking for a fixed blade knife with a rounded tip.

Similar to this mora:

But with a stainless blade. Good edge holding qualities would be preferred. Preferably a synthetic handle or handle that can handle moisture, this will be for underwater/swampy use, mucking out deep thick roots of water plants from a man-made pond, where puncturing rubber liners would be bad news.

Hell, for the price I may just buy that Mora and see how the carbon steel holds up.

Anyone come across something like this?

This should do the trick: Hultafors SKR safety knife 389090 stainless steel.
Here in the UK they're about $9.

There's the Mora 39 Safe, similar to the classic but with a plastic handle, rounded tip, and stainless blade.

NRS Pilot or co-pilot may be an option. The tip is more blunt than rounded but it's made for being in water.

In cowboy vernacular this is a "nutter". Castrator might be more refined.

They will certainly hold an edge. A design parameter.

These hold favor for doing a similar sometimes sightless job as you described. When castrating bull calves in a chute it is sometimes done more by feel and less by sight. Also, sometimes one hand can get kicked into the other, a rounded point knife can certainly be a safety item at such times.

Sometime back a junior rodeo judge asked me to build this. The idea was that he could jump into the middle of some wreck where a kid might be hung up and start slashing rope without stabbing the kid or the animal he/she is hung up on.

All honesty though, that Mora would probably work just fine for ya. When done just dry it off and wipe it down with oil and call er good. It'll last your lifetime.

This is what I would use- Mora Serrated Rescue- I would think that serrations would be perfect for cutting roots and plants underwater, and you have the ergonomics and non-slip grip of a Companion, with a blunted tip, bright colors, and sturdy sheath.

-This pic is copied from "Trailspace" . It shows the serrations well and I don't own one of these knives to photo myself.

Looking for a fixed blade knife with a rounded tip.

For which purpose?

Others have mentioned knives resembling the Mora pictured.

Just throwing these two out there;
Opinel makes a stainless #7 with rounded tip.

Opi also has the fixed blade 'Le Petit Chef' with a rounded tip.

Take a look at Spyderco's H1 salt series. These will not corrode.

The Jumpmaster has a rounded tip, (sheepsfoot blade)

The Enuff is a more compact version.

I think this is the best option I have seen so far, the serrations should work great on roots.
Although the nutter knife looks great too!

You can get any knife and just round off the tip with a grinder. Just keep it cool.

Seriously, This is very easy - Mora companion, in stainless steel. Cost you about $15.00, including the sheath. Add in about 30 seconds on a grinding wheel and you get as round and benign a tip as your heart desires. If you prefer a serrated edge, get the Mora Companion F for $4-$5 more.

If nothing else it is a very low cost buy in to see if the design you envision will do what you want it to.
