Could someone educate me on who makes them? Not necessarily in production now, not scared to buy used. I am not looking for any Swiss army knives. The only main thing i need is a carbon blade. It could have a screwdriver, can opener, awl, just looking for a traditional multitool. Just point me in the right direction, and that will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Just about every cutlery firm has made them, flea markets, garage sales, online auctions, pawn shops, they are probably the easiest pattern to find old and in decent condition.
My favorite is a old Dwight Divine & Sons, but any Ulster, Camillus, can be found for a few bucks.
Lots of threads on this topic, do a search and you will find plenty of pics here are a few

My first knife when I joined cub scouts was a Camillus CAMC4G red handled scout knife. I lost it in a move a while back and really do miss it. Had a great carbon steel blade that took a nice edge.

I think one of the most popular knives was made by Camillus and sold as "Kamp King" I have on of these great knives, carbon steel blades that take a scary sharp edge and feels really great in hand and in pocket. I also have one that I found, also made by Camillus, is from a later date and has stainless steel handles and a BSA logo.

I really like those old american made scout knives :)

They can be found on the secondary market like The Bay or whatever and are still available, even here in Germany - if you know what I mean!

To add one more option to your search, Boker still produces a scout knife with a carbon blade. If I were after this pattern, that would probably be my first choice (I like the beer barrel wooden handle quite much).

I haven't owned very many Scout knives, but they are cool. I would put in another vote for the old Camillus knives. For some reason I really like those.
Mine has the blue handles. I haven't had it out for a long time, but IIRC it has a well designed liner lock. Not that I think knives need locks, but for some reason I remember liking it.
Now I guess I will have to dig it out and look at it :D

Weidmannsheil now makes them in 1095.

And they are beauties too:

The imperial kamp king knives are nice knives and very easy to find. I gave a couple away some time ago and at last report the owners still love them. :)

AG Russell and Case are the most recent offerings. I got an AG Russell for my little brother, the Case was too small for me. I just have away a Boker USA, well made. I have a Camillus made Remington R4, a Made in USA stamped Camillus made, an equally old Camillus and a primble made by Boker or Queen. The primble was a trade, I found the made in USA for about ten bucks at the flea market. I don't remember where I got the Remington or Camillus. All are users.

I have several old BSA knives--Imperial, Camillus, Ulster--and really like them. You can find a used, but not abused, one on the auction site for around 20 bucks, depending on the day. Well built and lots of character.

Must second the Kamp King--had one of those when I was a scout, long before I had an official BSA knife. The Kamp King is a tough knife!

There are hundreds of the more recent (60's through early 2000's) made by Ulster, Imperial, and Camillus for the BSA out there in nice condition for sale for very reasonable prices. Check flea markets, yard sales, or on-line. OH

Keep seeing things that A.G. Russell might do another run of Scout knives - this time I won't be dumb and I'll get one.

Has anyone taken the junk plastic scales off a Kamp King and replaced it with a more durable material.

I'm going to do that on a couple more Barlows before I try it on a kamp king. I have an old thread somewhere called "Imperial Barlow Rebolstered, or A Man's got to know his limitations". I'm expecting it to go more smoothly next time with proper nickel silver for bolsters.
You can also just epoxy new covers over the brass.

I found one dirt cheap for my brother on the Exchange, made in the USA. I would like to see another run made in the US.

I'll keep an eye out for your thread. Cool beans.

I too am liking the camp knives lately, I've had an Ulster for a few years now andit takes and keeps a great edge. Also recently picked up an Imperial BSA covered in dirt and paint that cleaned up beautifully and turned out to be the metal shield version and yesterday I picked up my first kamp-king. All great knives great prices and used, wouldn't have it any other way.
