Hey guys, i've been in the market for a scout pattern knife for some time now. I'm not sure whats really available though. I found a SAK that i like (Hiker) its just that i feel that SAK's don't have the heart and soul of a more traditional knife. Is there a current or past production knife that has a similar configuration to the Victorinox hiker but with natural scales and carbon steel? Thanks for the help guys.

The Boker Scout knife is quite nice, although stainless.

I was looking at that one but im kinda stuck on wanting the wood saw blade. I think i might have to suck it up and go stainless and just get the SAK

I understand your sentiments on the SAK's. Great knives, but for some folks, only an original Scout type will do.

As far as an exact match to the Vic Hiker, there may not be a domestically produced Scout or utility knife that will. However, you might try looking for a Remington #R4 (made by Camillus). Three springs wide, with a spear blade, sheepfoot blade, wood saw, bottle opener/screwdriver, can opener. No tools on the back though.

Camillus also made their in-house version, called the C4, with a cartridge-head shield (mine is a .30-06). It's three springs wide too, with a main spear blade, serrated sheepfoot, wood saw, bottle opener/screwdriver, and on mine, a nearly useless awl: mine apparently is a second, with the phillips screwdriver messed up, and made into a 'pointed-poker-like-thing'.

FWIW, I've lived in Europe off and on since 1993 and have seen a lot of older guys carrying a SAK. Here, they're considered very old school and traditional, especially the more basic models.

True. SAKs are considered traditional knives/multitools here. A lot of people think of the Leatherman models as its modern succesors, especially non-knife people do. I think a lot of people, also non-knife people, consider the Victorinox Spartan as the classic SAK and put it in the same category as Opinels, which are also very well known here.

A.G. Russell offered one a few years back called the Premium Scout. Made by Queen I believe. Absolutely my favorite Scout of all time. I wish they would bring it back in the worst way.

Sorry, Como, that was made by Cammilus. Next it will be made in Taiwan. Just off the drawing board.

I believe Weidmansheil did a Scout knife in bone and stag with carbon.

Bulldog too but in acrylics, some of which look very good and Old School.

You just brought a huge smile to my face. I just got a vintage Ulster scout, if yours is similar in build I will be needing one.
Oh, did someone say carbon?;)

I have one of the Camillus AG Russell Premium Scouts, it's very nice. Not carbon, but it does have a 154CM master blade (IIRC). No saw though. I have a hunch that the new ones made in Taiwan may be even nicer. The Taiwanese AG Russell stuff that I've seen is killer.
