Howdy! I'm writing here because I'm not sure where exactly else I might find an answer to this question. I'm interested in finding a sheathmaker to make me a "mexican loop" style sheath for a Bark River Mini-Canadian skinner. I know it would be small, but I like the look. Anyone out there not charging an arm and leg who'd like to try a challenge? Any ideas on where else I might look to find someone like that. I know that the loop style is usually only for guns, and usually SAs, but I think this knife would look good in a setup like that. Anyone? Should I post this in the general section? Thanks, again!

Sincerely,
Anthony

You certainly have come the the right place. Our friend Chuck Burrows of Wild Rose Trading Company sort of specializes in Mexican Loop sheaths...among other beautiful styles. You can reach Chuck at wrtc@wrtcleather.com .

Of course he's not alone in outstanding leatherwork. You can also look up Tess Neilson and Sandy Morrisey, both well known around these parts for their excellent craft.

Good luck! And let us see your project when it's complete.

Thanks for the names, I'll be sure to check them out. Chuck Burrows' work I'm familiar with, but I'm not sure its even worth contacting him as I can't really afford to spend even his BASE price for a sheath. I don't want to waste his time on a pie-in-the-sky request. Its a $60 knife, and I don't want to spend hundreds on a nice sheath for it. Not that Mr. Burrow's work isn't worth the price, you'll understand! Please keep the suggestions coming!

Sincerely,
Anthony

I have had sheaths made by all these: Tess Neilson, Chuck Burrows and Dave Larson. All three are members here and all three are excellent sheath makers with Tess Neilson and Chuck Burrows being full time sheath makers. Dave Larson posted above. You can get in touch with Tess or Chuck by doing a search on Tess or Wildrose (Chuck Burrows). I most highly recommend one and all.

:D Anthony not trying to get you to buy, but you'd be surprised how many $60-$ 100.00 knives I sheath. Are you a maker - even part time - if so contact me - we can talk and then you can decide - it's never a waste of time.

On the other hand have you thought about making one yourself? I wrote a tutorial on how to make a Mexican Loop sheath. Take a look at it at see what you think - it can be made even simpler than the one in the tutorial and I'd be glad to answer any questions.

Mexican Loop Sheath Tutorial

PS - All of the above mentioned sheath crafters are good - another one not mentioned is Dwayne "leatherman" Puckett who is one of the BF good guys and I know that Dwayne has done Mex Loop sheaths.

Thanks for the link Mr. Burrows! It really looks good, but I'm all thumbs when it comes to stuff like that. Sent you an email, did you get it? Sent an email to Mr. Puckett, but that has been delayed (?!?!). Ah... to find a sheath!

Sincerely,
Anthony
