Looking for a single blade Trapper, 4" closed.

Does any company or semi-custom shop make a 4" closed Trapper with one, 3" or so clip blade? I have my dad's Case Slimline Trapper, so I don't want another one of those. I like the handle shape of the Case Trapperlock, but I'm not crazy about the liner lock, and the two that I handled both had some blade wobble. Anyway, that is the style knife that I'm looking for, but either in a slip joint or lock back, and a flat ground blade would be fine.

As a last resort I'd buy a regular two blade trapper, but I really don't need a spey blade, and I don't care for the extra handle width required to hold a blade that I don't want in the first place.

Do you have any specific handle materials in mind? Do you prefer stainless, or carbon steel? Do you have a price limit? There's lots of companies that make single blade trappers as well as other single blade jacks. Queen, Canal Street, Great Eastern, and others.

I have quite a collection of Case Trapperlocks, so you could say I like them!:) Yes some of them do have a little more play than others, but you want the blade to "free wheel" so it can be flicked open. I also cary a Trapperlock every day that I don't work my public job. (I cary something much smaller and I'm not susposed to cary at all!). In my opinion Case could have made this knife much more attractive if they had ground swedges on the spine, and made the button wedge shaped and about half as tall. Case has, and does make a single blade trapper just like you want, but they are usually special editions (the Brooks and Dunn pair) for example. Have you looked at the Case Backpocket? The BP is a little too big "for me".

There are also other makers that fill your bill, just start looking around a little.

BTW I wish Case would make the regular trapper with a single blade on a regular basis.

Look at the GEC #48 model trappers. they make a single and a double blade version.

Get your local knifemaker to remove the offending spey blade and backspring.I find them pretty useless also and add a bunch of girth and weight thats unnecessary.

May I suggest a Canal Street Half Moon
It is 3 3/4" long but the blade is significantly longer than the 4 1/4" Case slimline
also the steel is very good

If you don't want another Case, here are 3 other good options already mentioned. I don't remember the exact length of the blades but they are all at or just above 3"
Canal Street Cutlery Half Moon: 3 3/4" closed, ~3 1/4" 14-4CrMo(basically 154CM) blade
GEC: 3 7/8" closed, ~3" 1095 blade
Queen: 4 1/8" closed, ~3 1/4" D2 blade
Canal Street:

There is also the Canal Street Cutlery Pinch. Its basically a Half Moon Trapper that is a lock back but with D2 blades. You may also consider a GEC Toothpick. Its exactly 4" closed with a 3" clip blade. I don't have a Pinch but here are some GEC Toothpicks

That's one heck of a nice looking knife Seals and one heck of a job taking the Spey blade and spring off the knife but I gotta chuckle (in a nice way) that a Joshua, TX guy is recommending the removal of the Spey blade. I guess you're not a ranch or farm guy where the Spey blade comes in awful handy for ear notching, etc..

EsauandJacob -- That Canal Street recommended by "neeman" would make a great general purpose, easy carry, knife.

I'll definitely end up with one or more of them. I especially like the ideas of the Case Trapper with the "offending spey blade and back spring removed." I don't know of any local knife makers near me (central PA), but I'll look into it. By the way, all the pictures are great, I appreciate them. Thanks again.

My preference is carbon steel, but I have no preference as far as handle material. Wood, bone, and synthetic are all fine with me. Thanks for the reply.

A big ringing endorsement for the GEC #48 single blade trapper from me. Their 1095 has been great so far in my use. Love that knife.

I agree that the trapperlock is a bit too sloppy, but I like the trapper blade profile.
I have a few single blade trappers, the Case and Camillus are my favorites. I had a former member Muskrat man remove the spey blade for me.

Contact me if you still need help with this...I have a friend who can take your Trapper apart, discard the spey, and put the knife back together in a few minutes...just to show off.......

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I'm working with Seals to get a Case trapper converted to single blade, and my wife said I should also get a fancy GEC or Canal Street trapper for "dress" occasions. The pictures helped with that.

Thanks Ed! I grew up small town and country but not much ranch work in my history.Dad was a cowboy though and ran a ranch after he retired early.I kept him in knut cutters and ear notchers.:)

thought about the same one as I read the title
not big folded but longer blade when open despite che case one
14-4crmo is latrobe's 154cm or CPM-154 (don't remmeber) and is pretty good
maxx

Those Canal Street Half Moons are built like a tank. One fell out of m pocket hit three steel beams, came open, and fell 75 feet to the concrete. Only damage sustained was shattered bone scales. Pretty impressive if you ask me.
