Hello all,

I am looking for recommendations on a new slipjoint pocketknife. I have recently become very fond of the natural canvas micarta handle material and I was hoping to get some suggestions about where I might find a traditional (Stockman or Trapper) style slipjoint folder with this handle material. As an example of the type of micarta I am interested in check out this Bark River knife (link). Thanks in advance.

You will probably have to turn to a custom maker. i don't know of any production slip joints that have micarta handles.

I like natural micarta also, particularly of the older type used years back as it was more 'butterscotch' color than what is sold today and it was heavier seeming to be denser to me. I had to contact a custom maker, Ken Coats to get a slippie of this type. He did a great job for me. I kind of had to twist his arm to make it the way I wanted but he did it and I really like the end result.

I thought I might have to go the custom route, but I was hoping to not spend that much money. I seem to remember a Case/Bose collaboration that had natural micarta handles, but I can't seem to Google what I remember. Perhaps another option would be be to have someone replace the stock handles on a something like a Queen Stockman.

STR: That is a beautiful knife and very much like what I am looking for. However I prefer the micarta with more of the "weave" pattern showing as opposed to a "woodgrain" pattern.

Here is another example of almost exactly what I am looking for: link

Not sure about micarta, but if G-10 would work, Case makes a line of knives with black G-10 that looks a lot like canvas micarta. Case also had a line of orange G-10, but that has been discontinued. Not sure of the exact patterns available in the black, but I have the Humpback Whittler that I love!:D

I was looking through the new AG Russell catalogue today and saw these and thought of this thread. I didn't remember at the time you were looking for slipjoints but the micarta looked similar to what you wanted so I'm posting this anyway.

I just received a sodbuster jr from mr seals in tiger micarta and beautiful file work. I believe he posts in bf..i found the knife on the bay..

Don does great work on the sodbusters. I recently picked up one from him where he used orange micarta. Been using it every day since.
