Something that carrys comfortable and doesnt weigh to much....
Thanks for the feedback....

Wetterlings #13 would be my first choice, it should be about 1/3-1/2 the price of a Gransfor Bruks.

You will need to spend about .5-1 hour working the edge but after that it will be plain sailing. I use these axes all the time, a pal and I spent 3 days chopping up sun dried seasond Beech and after the trip the edge was still sharp, no dings or rolls.

I agree, the SA Wetterling line of axes are very good. I opted for the larger version of the hunter. 19" overall and 2# weight.

Gransfor Brux for an axe and Knives of Alaska Hunter's hatchet for a smaller one.

I would go with Wetterling in general as well if you are willing/able to do some possible edge reshaping, nothing major, just some file work and sharpening based on the one I had. I'd take the same forest size for general light work, however if you have knives and don't need it to be a knife-replacement, I'd get the full size forest axe unless there is a weight/size issue.

After owning 2 I gotta Go Grainsford, they got a good selection and I just personally love the look the balance and performance.

Check dlttrading.com for the new Bark River hand axe. Just another option to throw into the frey.
