I'm looking for a small-medium sized fixed blade knife that's under 50 dollars, I don't know what I want so pretty much all suggestions are welcome. For this purchase I'd like 1095 and full flat grind but I'm not too picky. After extensive browsing of the forum I'm aware of both the Bk series and the Esse series and I realize that they are favorites in this category however they don't do it for me. Aside from the previously mentioned knives, all suggestions welcome.

After spending the last 30 minutes looking at moras I might have to pull the trigger on a classic 2.

Moras are great if you aren't looking for something for hard use. The ESEE Izula and Becker BK 11 and BK14 are great choices for small hard use or neck knives.

out of curiosity have you attempted to mod the handle of yours?

I removed the paint from Mora #1 and roughed the handle with a rasp. I also flattened the handle of a 2/0 so it would ride easier in an inner coat pocket. I don't think either improved the knives. The 2/0 is very light and has a blade length under 3". It will take a good edge and will peel apples, make great feather sticks and a multitude of other knife related tasks

The OP asked for full flat grind, not a scandi grind. Makes it a lot harder when $50 is the limit.

What are you going to be doing with it?

Whatever the specific knife is intended for. I'm just looking for something new and fun, and I'd like to try a mora and see if it lives up to all the hype. If it's anything close to what the opinel is (An inexpensive but great knife) I'll be more than pleased.

I also mentioned that I wasn't picky. I've never tried scandi grind and I'm looking forward to.

Get a Mora. If you don't like it you aren't out that much money. They are great knives for the price. I like Mora's a lot but I only use my knives for cutting things. If you're looking for a knife to use as a crowbar or axe then look elsewhere.

It's coming in on Thursday. Despite purchasing many more knives since, I still use the one that started the whole knife hobby for me, an Opinel No 8 carbone. I have a crowbar AND an axe so both of those fields are covered.

One of the selling points of the Mora is I could potentially sand down the handle and stain it/apply linseed oil to have it match my opinel cabone, or leave it sanded and have it match (at least in color) my beechwood opinel. I'm not a huge fan of the red paint.

If scandi grind is no issue to you, then might I suggest you look at the Condor Bushlore (scandi)? Very good knife for about $40CAN....1075 steel though. And while I am at it, a FFG knife to consider is the Condor Kephardt(spear point)...the same price, basically...also 1075 steel

Might be a bit bigger than you want and not FFG, but the Schrade SCHF-9 is a damn nice knife for $40.
