Looking for a small fixed blade

I'm looking for a small fixed blade for making walking sticks in the spring/summer. I'd really prefer something with a 3-inch blade. I was looking at the Buck Ranger 113 fixed, but I'm wondering if a different grind would be better for this purpose. I'm interested in Mora's, but I can't seem to find anything shorter than 3 3/4. So 1. Would the grind make a difference for this application? and 2. Any recommendations for smaller blades? Posting in traditional because I'm not so much interested in the modern fixed blades out there. Thanks.

Check out the Bark River knives, and in particular the "Little Creek". It is a small, traditionally styled and assembled knife and it might just fit your bill. It has the blade shape of an old style small hunting blade.

For something less expensive but just as pretty, you might want to go to Google, click on Images, then enter "small fixed blades". You will get a ton of hits and you can pick and choose what you want to look at. I would also enter "bird and trout knives" and take a look at those as well.

Pretty good stuff here, too: http://tinyurl.com/lnbhw48

You might look a little harder at the Mora line. I found three different models of Mora knives that were 3" and they looked just like their big brothers. No link as I don't know for sure if the dealer was a BF member in good standing.

On a small blade like you are looking for, I would get a relatively thin blade with either a full flat grind or a scandi grind to in order to make it easy to slice and do fine cutting.

I checked three dealers I normally frequent before I posted this, one apparently doesn't carry Mora at all, the other two didn't have anything smaller than the 3 3/4. I also did a google search, and didn't come up with anything else. Maybe different terms would've changed something, I don't know. I actually checked another website I thought wouldn't carry Mora, after I posted this, and found a couple that might work. I don't plan on getting anything right away, so I'm going to keep looking for now just in case. The Bark Rivers are nice, but a bit more than I want to spend.

I don't know if these are smaller than you're looking for, but take a look at the Morakniv Wood Carving #120 and #122. I just got these, and am planning to carve some designs on my walking stick. When the weather warms up, and I have some time............:)

I got a $25 gift card to "A" major online retailer that I need to spend. I'm thinking about getting the Condor Mini Bushlore. It seems to be a good knife for the price.
