looking for a small folding saw use for camping/hunting does anyone have any good reviews???

There have been numerous discussions here in the past, which saw is best depends on the type of wood. A very soft and resinous wood requires a very open tooth structure, you either want a very coarse tpi or heavy gullets, optimally both. However a very fine grained hardwood needs the exact opposite as the soft wood saw will be too aggressive, catch, and be hard to pull through the wood without heavy force on the draw.

Felco makes a very nice soft sap wood saw, however it is too aggressive for small diameter limbs. Tashio Hardware makes very nice hand saws, their Timber saw is one of the general purpose saws I have seen for this area and works well over a very broard range of wood types from soft firs to harder oak and birch, going through trunks as well as limbs. They also have a very nice folding saw with replaceable blades with the ability to change the angle of the blade which is very useful.

Im a professional gardner and felco probably makes the best hand saws. Fanno saw works also makes a superb product . However for the money when I'm not working I carry a gerber folding saw with the two blades. Excellent product and cost less than $20.

Dunno if they sell them in the USA, but I've been very favorably impressed with the Bahco folding saw I've been using.

Another vote for the Gerber, their knives may be getting worse and worse but their Saw's & Axe's are fine for the money.

I like the Tashiro Hardware Pocket Folding Saw that Cliff mentioned. It is a slightly modified Diamond-Z (Hishi-Z in Japanese) saw. I have a few scattered throughout my kits and tool boxes.

One nice thing about the Tashiro saw is that there are interchangable blades that fit the saw. The blades range from rather coarse green wood cutters (though not as coarse as a Swede Saw blade) to very fine-toothed hardwood joinery blades to use in the woodshop for fine furniture construction.

Below are links to info on the Tashiro saw or folding saws in general. I will have to do another pruning saw test one of these days. Besides the ones covered in the first link below, I now have a couple other saws to try out:
  • Corona pruning saw from Home Depot.
  • Nakaya EX-240 pruning saw from the Nokogiri.com website. BTW, the guys at Nokogiri.com are very easy to work with... great customer service!

Gotta love the toothy toys. ;) :D

Gotta toss my vote for the Wyoming saw. I've used it since I was a kid, and I've never used anything else. breaks down to 12"x3"x1" and with 3 blades (Hack saw, Bone saw, wood saw) it weighs about 20oz.
