I am looking for a small knife w/ a blade of 2-3" and preferably $30 or under. I am considering an SOG mini topo or flash I, or a Spyderco ladybug or one in the byrd series. I did see the thread on small knives and it point the way to a few. It will not be an everyday knife, but will be for carrying when I need something less conspicuous. I also don't want ot violate any laws while doing so for MO.

If you're trying to spend less than $30, definitely take a look at the Byrd line of knives.

Both the Meadowlark and the Crow fall within your blade length limit.

thanks, I will continue looking. I went looking at bryd line and found the Finch, too. How does the steel, 8Cr13MoV stand up to others?

You might also look at the KaBar Doziers. 3" AUS8 lockbacks. Less than $20 online.

I just bought a NIB Ladybug 3 from Ebay for $20 +$4.95. I was expecting a toy, but was surprised to find it a very useful knife. It is really a minature Delica from all appearances. If you are looking for a very small but useful knife, I'd say get a Ladybug.

I'd get a Delica, Dragonfly, or Cricket. I have a Jester and while it is a great sharp little knife I retired it, it was WAY too small for my hands so I cut myself several times with it, don't have that problem with the three I mentioned.

Are there any other good brands too look at too?

Thanks for all the replies so far. I am looking into all your great suggestions and it has made my decision harder. I have a Buck Mayo currently.

How about a Boker Trance or if you dont want a clip an A G Russell Featherlite folder is just a couple more bucks. Also Kershaw has a few nice ones in your price range. GOOD LUCK! Kevin:)

Although they will run you a bit more $$, I'd take a serious look at the "little-big" knives from Spyderco. Among the great ones are:

Crickett
Dragonfly
Navigator II
Spin (I don't have this one yet, but I hear great things about it).

Also, the Blade-Tech Mouse II in G10 and S30V is a good one.

Another small knife on my list is the Al Mar SLB.

Again, all of these will run a bit more than $30, but, in my mind, they are well worth it.

Good luck on your search.
:)

If it's keychain size you want, also take a glance at the Spyderco Jester.

Other older Spydercos you might run across: Dragonfly, Navigator, Meekat. All cool little blades. I'd actually try to save a bit more money and get a higher quality blade.

IMO, nobody beats Spyderco at the little 2" blades.
