Looking for a small LED light

I was hoping someone could help me find an LED light. I want to primarily use it for camping and I want to put it in either my pocket or the pouch on the front of my SOG sheath. I have done a little research and am overwhelmed by lumens and battery choices.

What I am looking for:

Battery choice: I would like to keep it something standard like AA unless you can convince me otherwise.
Length about 4 inches.
Priced under 30-35 dollars (if possible)

Inova X1

Available at your local Target. ;)

I personally don't like the AA and AAA lights, though they have improved.

I like CR123 lights due to the stability in "extreme" temperatures, the stabil battery life of approx. 10 years, and the general size of these flashlights in single cell flashlights.

In the $30-$35 dollar range I don't have any recommendations, though. The new 4sevens are nice and Fenix has a good reputation - but you're looking at about $50 or more.

I like the look of those sufler, Ill have to check at Target next time I am there. And thank you for explaining the battery orthagonal, I was looking at the 4seven lights and thought they looked pretty cool. If the price is right I think I'll go with the Inova to start but will save my pennies for a higher tier light.

+1 for the Maratac AAA at countycomm. I picked one up a while back and i love it, a nice even 22 lumens on medium which is perfect for 90% of tasks, and 80 lumens on high just in case you need it. Love mine.

iTp has some nice stuff. I have a c7t and it's my EDC light.

A1 EOS (cr123)
A2 EOS (aa)
A3 EOS (aaa)

c7t (aa)
c9t (cr123)

I don't know enough about cr123s to say if they are superior. I just stick with AA batteries (I use lithiums) since they are easy to come by.

I'll third the Maratac. I haven't found a better value in terms of size/cost/useable light.

My EDC is an Cree UltraFire C3.

Under $20 at most sites. 60 Lumen. 13/16" X 3 13/16". Single AA.

So far its been a great little light that rides in the pocket well.

Trust me, the ITP's and Maratacs are way better than the Inova. Get a AAA and AA version you won't be disappointed.

Depends on how small you want. If you want a keychain light, then the ITP A2 EOS, Maratac AA, or the 4Sevens Quark MiNi AA are all great choices. Extremely small, multiple modes, and, excluding the ITP, have the ability to tailstand. The Quark also has hidden modes for strobe, SOS, high and low beacon available.

If you just one to keep it simple with one bright mode and with the ability to throw, the Romisen RC-G2 would make an excellent choice, especially if you go for the RC-G2 II from shiningbeam, which has a better driver and Q5 emitter.

Lately, I've been carrying the iTp A3 EOS and the 4 Sevens Mini. Both are good choices in your price range.

I recommend the iTP A1 EOS. It runs on 1 CR123 battery and has runtimes 2-3 times longer than the aforementioned AA + AAA lights. It also is as bright, on medium, as my 3 D cell LEDMaglite. On high there is no comparison. It rides in my watch pocket comfortably and is a great edc, especially if you need a light all of the time. It is a small but powerful package.

I also bought a few rechargeable lithium ion batteries and a recharger. The lithium batteries will not be affected by temperature extremes and I feel I'll have plenty of light any time I would need it.

Cheers, Shane
