Im looking to open my collection some and add a few spyderco knives to it, up to this point I have nothing but Kershaw/ZT. So Ive seen a few Spydercos on the exchange that have caught my eye and was wondering what the pros could tell me about them. The two Ive seen and like are the para mili with digi cam and the sage 1 carbon fiber. Now im open to check out any others but what do pro know about these??

It took me a while to 'like' the Spyderco designs, but once I actually got a couple in hand, they grew on me quickly. I much prefer the hole to a stud for one hand opening. I'm no pro, but I recently acquired a PM2 and a Sage. Both are nice knives. The PM2 has a generous handle for a full grip without even using the choil. The Sage is very smooth opening and the carbon fiber is a classy look. Both are fairly slim and work well if you want to drop them in your pocket and not have the clip exposed to view.

I would start slow, first with say, a Delica 4 or a Dragonfly, before dropping 3 figures on one...I've been collecting Spyderco's for many years, and they are an acquired taste. Many I don't like at all, and more than a few took me quite a while to warm up to them...the PM2 being one of them. Actually, I've never really warmed up to the PM2, and sold off three of them, and only kept the orange G10 version solely as a collector's piece. If after buying one or two less expensive Spyderco's you find you like them, then by all means check out the pricier offerings.

How big is your hand and what size do you prefer for EDC. You have to ask yourself that first. In general all the Spydercos really rock and the two that you have your eyes on are probably one of the two out of many that are highly rated. I would never own a PM2 as it's too big for my uses but other people swear by it. From trying Spydercos out in all sizes there is something about them that once you find the right size you will think that the handle fits in your hand perfect. They are really ergonomic. All of the full flat grind blades on the Spydercos will basically out slice everything that you currently have. So the choice comes down to size and scale material.

I have a Tenacious that I EDC everyday and love so im looking to move up to something nicer for my collection. I like G-10 and carbon fiber handles, S30V steel, and blade length 3 to 4 inches. Looking for something around 100$-120$

Well you pretty much just described the sage 1.

Also look at the Gayle Bradley

The Para 2 DLC digicam and the Sage 1 are the only two Spydercos I have at the moment. Both are ergonomic and great cutters that ride well in the pocket. The Sage carries a little better due to its smaller size and lesser weight. Both would serve you well. I guess decide on which size you prefer or aesthetics. Oh and the Sage has been going for under $100 on the exchange recently.

Manix 2- G10, S30V, overall blade length is just over 3", CBBL, $100.

Chaparral- CF/G10 Laminate, S30V, 2.8" blade, lockback, $110.

Sage 1- CF, S30V, 3" blade, liner lock, $120.

Yojimbo 2- G10, S30V, 3.1" blade, compression lock, $120.

Persian- G10, VG-10, 3.4" blade, lockback, $130.

Chokwe- G10/Titanium, S30V, 3.75" blade, frame lock, $135.

Caly 3.5- G10, VG-10, 3.5" blade, lockback, $135.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

wow thanks guys.......I just seen Dave ( kershawguy) has some new para mili digi cam knives for 119$ new......something is saying buy one to me but sage 1 CF is a beautiful knife!!!! going to check out the others said above now

The Sage series are great EDC blades. Perfect mid-size carry.

Which Kershaws and ZT'S are you used to carrying? Id find something roughly the same size and a full flat grind. Spyderco does a ffg superbly.

I have about 90 kershaw knives and 16 ZTs.....I mostly EDC the 0801, 0566, 0550, JYD composite, and thermite ( as hard user)

My first two Spydies are the Sage 1 and the PM2. Seems like a pretty popular combo actually! You won't be disappointed with either. Sage 1 is a little more refined and beautiful, the PM2 is a little more badass. Everything about the Sage screams class, it opens so smoothly, the liner lock slips into place with the most satisfying thwack and the fit and finish are almost silly good. That being said, the fit and finish of my PM2 is almost as good but it's not the gentleman's folder the Sage is and that is fine. I have more confidence with the PM2 even though the Sage is more than enough for my daily tasks. It's hard to describe, but the compression lock, the G-10 and the generous handle all just feel really good. Love them both, get both!

Check out the Southard, Domino, and Gayle Bradley. They should be right up your alley.

I had a 0801 that I enjoyed. But both the domino and Southard won me over, so I sold the 0801. For your price point, I would go with a pm2.

The Para and Millie platforms are one of the most popular Spyderco designs for a reason. If you want a hard working folder with the look of intent and easy operation, look absolutely positively not one inch further. The para is it.

I was going to take the time to write out my opinion, but you did it for me. Thanks! :)

I picked up a PM2 last night from Kershawguy and got a Sage 1 from someone on forums today. Im very excited to try out these Spydercos and see how I like them......thanks

Lol, yup, that's the way these "which one should I get" threads usually get solved around here. :D
