Good morning everyone.

My name is Patrick and I have been modding production knives for a few years as well as making fixed blades for friends, family and a few For sale pieces here and there.. and while I enjoy it, it isn't grabbing me like slipjoints do. The simplistic nature of their usefulness and the complexity of their builds just grab something inside of me. I have been interested in knife making since I was around 10 years old but there was nobody in my family who was interested in collecting, let alone making. I am an electrician by trade but I would like to phase that out and eventually become a full-time knife maker. I am 32 years old now and we aren't getting any younger 😆

I would like to put all of my focus of learning into making slip joints, rather than fixed blades. I am the type of person that learns best when I'm doing it in the process, if I watch it done and work along side someone, I'll pick it up quickly. Sure, videos, DVDs and books help to an extent but that hands on learning is the most valuable and important to me and I also believe that making in general, is a slow dying art so it need to be preserved.

Basically, what I am proposing is, I would like to see if there's anyone in the 757/804 area of Virginia (this is the area known as Hampton roads) who is looking to take on an apprentice to carry on your style of making or someone who is just willing to teach in depth. I can help with shop tasks, heavy lifting, clean up around the shop, basic shop apprentice things etc. as well as material runs, online ordering and anything else that you would need. Specifically, I am in Suffolk,Virginia area but I am willing to travel as far north as Richmond or as far south as Moyock, NC or round abouts and equally to the West/inland.. there's nowhere to go to the east or else you end up in the water! 😆

I appreciate everyone taking the time to read this if you did, I was recommended to take this step by a slipjoint knife maker I have been chatting with on Reddit as well as a few other things to help me gather knowledge.

If you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to ask them, I'm not sure if direct messages will come to my email or what. This is my first time posting on my account, but I have had it made for some time, I think I tried to make it for sale post years ago but never actually ended up doing it, I can't remember. Anyway, thank you again and I hope to hear from all of you guys and gals. God bless and have a great day.

Great first post, I'm hoping someone close by you reaches out to you..... I'm hoping even far away people do too, as those still could be stepping stones towards your success, and potentially wonderful friendships..... Good Luck!
:D
