Looking for a thick folder

Hey dudes. I'm looking for something preferably 4" or more and 3/16 wide or there abouts for the blade.. I live in Florida and have a cwp so I can carry a machete in my pocket if I wanted too. I'm not looking for something super high end but something built sturdy as it will be seeing lots of abuse.

Many thanks.

Budget? Lock Type Preference? Steel/Handle Material Preference? Big/Thick, decent quality and affordable usually goes into Cold Steel Territory.

Ok just throwing a couple ideas out there. Any DPX Gear folder, Hinderer, and Benchmade Adamas are a few options for you. It would help tremendously if you can clarify what you are looking for so we can narrow things down a little.

My dpx hest/f is a tank of a knife. Its a very thick bladed ti framelock.
It however doesnt meet your 4" criteria, but worth a look if you want an indestructable folder.
It also has a lock feature that locks the blade open, esentially making it a fixed blade.

Kizer makes some robust folders in s35vn in the 3.5" range. I think the John gray SLT flipper and escort are 3/16" thick. I really like my rogue, it's built well but the blade is only 3".

BM Adamas 275 built like a tank, D2, indestructible pretty much

Spyderco Shaman?*

I wonder if what you need is not a thick blade but a stout grind.

* I have a logical issue with putting a $100+ knife into “hard use” service.

I have the same issue.

FFG with 3/16 at the spine would be cool or something with a real high hollow grind. On that same token I have a $300 ladder that gets flung around all day but it's not a precision instrument like I consider my knives to be.

I don't know what it is about cold steel but I just don't like anything they make aside from their push knives.

The Adamas is just a tad under 4" (3.82") and I just happen to be selling my Safe Queen back-up. The Adamas is built like a tank, made of D2 tool steel but is precise and smooth. The sheath Benchmade includes is truly a bonus though I typically carry mine in my RF pocket.

If you are interested, here's my shameless plug:

Without any specified budget, I have to say that the, uh, galactically-stupid eccentric Greg Medford's knives jump to mind.

Extrema Ratio is another company that pops into my thoughts at the query "who makes a folding knife too thick to be useful?"

You never addressed the budget question. You don't like the CS SR-1 because of the company/brand correct? Or is $160ish too much?

$160 isn't too much, but it's kinda too much for a cold steel in my opinion. For that money you can get most decent zts but I dislike frame locks for the most part.

I might have been a little vague in the op.

My two largest criteria are thickness and length. Secondarily my ideal blade shape would be drop point (because they're sexy) and tanto: for ease of sharpening.
I'm also quite partial to flippers. Handle material I have no preference.

Check out the first Lionsteel I linked. Flipper, thickness, hard use tool steel, everything's there except 0.25" below your length spec. I've considered that knife myself. In that price range say around $200 and given your specs, I think that's one of the closest fits you'd find except for the Cold Steel Sr1, or jumping up to a significantly higher price point.
