Looking for a three-gun rig

I'm seriously thinking about getting involved in the sport, at least on an entry level. And while I've got some equipment, there's still more that's needed.

Rather than a belt for carrying magazines, I'm looking for is a tactical-type vest, that's good enough for something more serious than paintball play, and durable enough for carrying actual weight from loaded magazines and such when running and crouching. It doesn't have to be heavy-duty milspec ready, but it'd be nice if it can stand up to semi-rigorous use without the stitching coming apart due to possible sharp corners on actual equipment. I'm open to suggestions, but I have a few that I'm looking at as possibilities for starting out.

The first options is the UTG 547. The advantages it has is relatively low price, and comes equipped with a duty belt, holster, and enough pouches to hold eight rifle magazines, and up to six pistol magazines, as well as internal pockets and several other pouches for other gear, and is available in multiple finishes. The disadvantage is that there's not much flexibility for loadout options as everything is attached.

The second option is the Condor cross draw vest. Largely the same, but it looks like it holds two fewer rifle magazines, and has quick release buckles across the front zipper.

The third option is the Condor modular vest. The disadvantage is that it's only available in black as best I can tell, and is nothing but the vest, meaning you have to spend extra money on all the pouches, belt, and whatever else you want to attach. The advantage is that is has MOLLE webbing almost all over the entire front and back of the vest, meaning that it can be configured in almost whatever fashion someone wants it to be, for as light or as heavy a loadout as desired, and able to be modified if certain stages require it.

Meh. Go with a gun belt. Throw on a weighted exercise vest in you want to simulate the weight of plate.

Tac vests are like uniforms. If you need one it will be issued and it will need to match the rest of the unit.

If you are part of a uniformed response unit, by all means, wear your issued kit.

Otherwise a belt system that you can modify to fit the course is the way to go.

Safariland ELS or one of those rigs with the underbelt going through the belt loops on your pants and the overbelt snugged to it with velcro.

I agree, go belt. Vests loaded down with mags and speed loaders can hinder arm movement, and you'd need a belt anyways for your pistol. Get a good snug jersey and tuck it in. Also, unless you really cinch down a vest really tight, it's not going to be as steady as a belt, it will move around when running. If it is nice and tight, it can restrict movement and breathing.

if you are shooting to be competitive look at what the leaders use. I like tactical/ limited class. Real world stuff.
www.brianenos.com Read the 3 gun forums and gear through.

As others have said, look at what the other shooters are using. Belts are used because its quicker and lighter. The vests you mentioned are at best not all that good, if you want a vest Tactical Tailor makes a very good one, add HSGI pouches and you have a quality setup. If you compete at all though your going to end up with a belt rig set up much like the other shooters use.

I bought an Eagle Industries vest ~20 years ago. It is still as good today as it was then.

However, it is hot. As noted, it isn't good for fast dynamic movements and awkward shooting positions. Good belts dominate for a reason. ;)

If you go with a belt, you may want to consider some suspenders. I like Tyr tactical, but I know a lot of guys who run Emdom and Tactical Tailor.
